GEN III Front License Plate - BumperPlugs

I know this has been posted and noted here however I haven't seen them on the GenIII's.

So, I went to pick up my GenIII and discovered that the front license plate was attached!!! This appears to be a CA thing since the dealer mentioned that they would make me sign a form if I refused the front plate holder.

In any case I discovered http://www.bumperplugs.com and was very pleased with the entire experience...from the initial emails to the owner all the way to the finished product.

Eric (Chief Plug Guy) was very quick in responding to my questions and provided the exact color match...please mention that you read this post if you decide to order especially in another color other than the Blizzard Pearl. The StarFire Pearl - Lexus (Color Code 070) is apparently the same color code as the Prius Blizzard Pearl.

PM me if you have any questions on the process.

Wow, you mean they install the front plate holder even when front plates are not required??? I'm fortunate as WV does not require front plates and thus they do not install the bracket and holder. Only once when my dealer got a car for my son from another state (Scion TC) did we have the front plate holder. We removed it using the plugs you mention to cover the very ugly holes. You'd think Toyota and others would build bumpers that looked good with a plate (some bumpers used to have an indention for the plates) if the majority of states require it.

I have no tangible comment. I just felt I should bump this thread for the mere use of the phrase " Eric (Chief Plug Guy)". You know, I'm guessing most people just refer to him as the acting CPG.

CA law states that two plates are required if two plates are issued. I managed to get my 2004 RAV without the front plate attached, however I think the dealers are now purposely attaching the front plates on all vehicles they sell. My close buddy seems to think it has something to do with the intersection traffic cameras being used at a lot of major CA cities. BTW, all the Toyota's at my dealer have the indentations for the front plate.

Thanks for the response...I thought more affected owners would put in their 2 cents...oh well it must be a newbie thing :)

I'll order some today. I was lucky enough to catch my Lexus without the front license plate frame installed as they brought it out from the back lot. They threatened to make me sign a form but it never happened. We've been driving it with no front plate since we got it in July 2006 and no tickets so far.

My wife and I also went for 10 years without front plate on our previous cars and got just two tickets each car the entire time. They didn't even ticket me for tinting the front side windows 35% during those no front plate sweeps either!

Good deal...just a heads up on the installation of the bumper plugs. The front bumber on the GEN III is slightly curved upwards. You'll need to adjust your 1/4 drill bit to compensate. Also, start drilling out the holes with a smaller bit first to clean it up and prevent any cracking of the paint.

It is nice to hear that other CA drivers have also experience some of the same with front license plates. I managed to go five years and not get tagged for missing a front plate on my RAV4...we will see how it goes with this one. I'll use good old 'Duck Tape' to clear a fix it ticket if I get sighted. :)
