I know this part of the forum is mainly for people who install fishtanks in their dashboard and do other "real mods", but can someone recommend a good cargo/trunk organizer for my wife?

She likes the look of this one over the Toyota option:
ROLA® MOVE™ Rigid Base Large Interior Organizer

(sorry no URL until I make more posts it looks like).

    We have a Gen III.

The accessories for the 2010 include a cargo organizer for $49 and a cargo tote for $40. Don't know if they are any good but you could check them out at the dealer's parts department.

The Toyota option is cheaper then the one my wife saw, I'll check it out at the dealer.

The Toyota one is considerably smaller than the one on Amazon. If you take a look in the storage compartment under the cargo area there isn't that much space. If your wife is looking to use it to hold groceries, sport equipment, etc., the Rola looks like a better choice.

I would take a look at the measurements before ordering to make sure that it fits width wise in the Gen III cargo area.

The Toyota Cargo Organizer goes into the storage compartment. It's not going to hold much. Personally, I wouldn't get it.

2010 Toyota Prius Cargo Organizer NEW OE:eBay Motors (item 320400327177 end time Aug-16-09 14:49:41 PDT)

The Toyota Cargo Tote goes outside/on top of the storage compartment. Subject to measurements to confirm that it fits between the wheel wells, it looks OK to me.

The Rola Move organizer also goes outside/on top of the storage compartment. Subject to measurements to confirm that it fits between the wheel wells, it also looks OK to me.

I bought two expandable totes from Target for $15 a piece. They are in the automotive section. Work wonderfully, and fit under the cargo cover as well.

I like yours. Think I'll pick up one or two next time I'm at Target.

I thought you were asking about "under" the cargo area. I have a Toyota organizer but have not looked in there and taken the plastic off. Not sure what I will store there. As for the cargo area, I've always been fond of the plastic cartons that used to be for milk jugs. Staples and other places sell them now. They are the ones that are about like a 16" Cube shape. Easy to carry in and out of the house and they don't slide around on carpet. Very sturdy.

You really should check out that under the cargo area storage area, unless the 10's are very much different that the 09's, I think you will be pleasantly surprised. There is a large amount of storage for things that you always need to keep in the trunk of your car, tools, blankets for cold weather emergencies, etc. Anyway, check it out.

I thought of getting one because it has an area to store the Toyota first aid kit. I thought having an emergency kit would be a good idea and saw that there is a compartment made for the Toyota kit.

Currently, I have one rear headrest, some surf leashes, and a chamois sitting in the storage area and it slides all over the place when I am driving.

I will check it out. It doesn't appear to be that easy to get into. I've only looked once to briefly look at the organizer. May be a good place to store the volumes of Owners manuals and free up glove box space:)

I guess I could store baby wipes and all the other stuff I need for the grandkids there as well.

I must confess, I prefer cardboard boxes. It's true recycling they don't even have to go through the cardboard factory again. They are really quite inexpensive and they don't rattle. Plus if you tire of the design you can replace them easily.

The '09 is fairly easy to get into---you just need to take whatever is in the back (trunk) of your car out, to access it.
You lift up the carpeting, you'll see a couple of little key (thingamajigs) this will open the door and give you access.....it's like wheel well size, and there is a little bar that can be used to hold the door open (mentioned in another thread). I couldn't believe there was so much room there.....and yes, that's where I keep my big car manual, too.

I like this one too. But I think it may be an inch too tall for the Gen II Prius tonneau cover which is around 11 inches high.

EDIT: I now think that this will fit. The bottom bar of the tonneau cover is around 11 inches high, while the soft tonneau cover itself is more than 12 inches high.

So I decided to take a look at the OEM cargo organizer and bought it. I was tired of my storage compartment being an unorganized mess. I currently have have an umbrella, first aid kit (that fits perfectly in its assigned space), a chamois, one rear headrest, and binoculars (to check the surf). There is still more space left and it looks much better than it did without the organizer in place.

The organizer is very light and isn't of high quality, but it's a perfect fit and wasn't too expensive. I am happy with it.

The Rola 59001 Organizer is a perfect fit. Perfect as in it fits perfectly between the wells, 38 inches exactly. In fact you can put two of them in there, and they fit perfectly side by side as well, with just enough room, and clears the cover. Probably the best organizer I have come across.

That Rola organizer does seem perfect.

However, with my current finances, I don't want to spend $60 for it.

But I will add it to my Christmas list. :)
