my fiance and i are picking up our gen III prius II in bliz prl next week. the prius II package has everything we need but we hate the stock wheels even without the covers, even though it does look better without them. i have been researching toyota, scion, and lexus wheels to see what would work on the prius so that i can order it and include it in the purchase price and in the financing.

from what i have found only the scion tc and xd have the same bolt pattern as the prius and have wheels availible as an accessory. the tc has two 18" wheels that come with tires. the xd has an 18" wheel and tire combo as well as a 16" wheel that doesn't really fit the prius's looks. if i were to buy the prius V wheels the dealer told me it would be about 500 a wheel, is that true?
i do know that the bigger wheels means less fuel economy but we want it to look better.
i am looking for any kind of feedback. thanks!:welcome:

All Lexus wheels except LS 460/600 are 114.3 x 5.
ES is FWD and have 17" sizes. GS/IS are RWD and have 17-19" sizes...RWD on FWD can cause some offset problems..

the only problem i could see with the lexus wheels was that they didn't come with tires (from what i could tell on their website). most of the lexus cars have a different bolt pattern than the prius, which sucks becuase some of the lexus wheels look great. do you know of any of the lexus wheels work for sure? or if they do in fact come with tires from lexus?

so i figured out that the corolla and prius have the same bolt pattern.

does anyone know where you could go online to find prices for oem wheels? these wheels that are attached are 16" and 17" wheels that come on the "S" and "XRS" models.

As the Prius has a 5 x 100 stud pattern, there are very few cars that are the same. Some Subaru models, the last FWD Celica series, and a couple of Audi A3 models are all I found.
I, too, am trying to find a suitable wheel for my new Prius which I am getting early next week.

There are plenty of suggestions for nice aftermarket wheels to suit Prius on your US Tire Rack website....much more than available in Australia. Have a look there.

Start checking eBay for new take-offs from the dealerships or people such as yourself that buy a car and replace the new tires and wheels with other tires and wheels. Believe me, I am quite sure you will even see the 17" Prius wheels available when someone wants to upsize to 18" wheels. Be patient and you will save some money and get what you want.

i'm thinking that the stock 17" wheels arfe gonna be the hardest to come by. it seems like most people would simply keep those, they are really cool!

Have you checked to see if the 2004-2009 Prius 'Touring' wheels and tires would fit the Gen3?

It was a 16" wheel with 195/55 tires. The bare wheel was a gray color IIRC, and the plastic covers look so good, I always thought they were alloys.

    ------------
That said, IMHO, I think 18's would be overkill on a Gen3 Prius. The 17's look good, but apparently they weight 8 lbs more than a 15" stock wheel.

    ----------

Too bad Toyota, IMO, didn't put some more effort into a more appealing stock wheel on the Gen3. I'm not much a fan of full plastic wheel covers. It's a hybird built for max fuel economy, but IMHO, I think Toyota ought to offer a more attractive OEM option wheel for the Gen3.
Not everyone will reach the $29k+ for Gen3 V just to get a large wheel.

The Gen3 needs to be 'the total package'. Not quite there with those II - IV wheels.

    ---------------

I think we're going to be hearing a lot of 'I like the car, but where can I get some better wheels?'
    --------------

I like the wheels on my Gen2 better than the Gen3. I thought they were full alloys until looking very close to see a trim ring. They've never fallen off, and it's a smart design to only replace the ring if scratched on a curb.

Just opinion though. None of it really matters all that much.

i agree about the size thing, the reason i thought about the 18" trd wheels for the scion TC is they come with everything and they fit the overall charecter of the prius. i would prefer the stock 17's but i think the TRD 18's are lighter.

There is typically a set of Scion Tc wheels, sometimes with tires available there. I have a set of Tc wheels and am considering if I want to put snow tires on them or just buy a set of 15" wheels with snow tires. The Tc wheels are cool looking, but 17" snow tires are expensve.

Just remember the Scion TC wheel and tire combo is pretty heavy.

Probably the same as my V 17's. I'm OK with that.

Stock 17" tC wheels are 21 pounds each. For those keeping score at home, that's 3 pounds lighter than the V's wheels.

Cool. That's a pretty significant difference.

I'll have to remember that when I go to buy new tires. I may want to move the tpms over and put new tires on the Tc wheels. I'll probably try them with the snow tires first or hopefully someone will use them and post pictures. I hate to be the first to try them but would like to see how they look on the car

Here's my new Aussie I-tech, picked up today.
I fitted aftermarket 17" wheels/tyres straight up from delivery. Now it is complete!

Nice! so to answer all our curiosities, what do your aftermarket 17" wheels weigh? (in pounds please?)

Do your own conversion, we have to! :flame:

    Looks awesome Sleeka!!

Conversion factor, multiply KG by 2.2 to get lbs.

Awesome looking. I don't normally like aftermarket wheels, but that's one nice looking rim! Tires also look meatier with no rim protector seen on the stock 17", what size/brand are they?

Tyres are Yokohama A.Drive R1 (my choice), 215/45/17 size.
I was trying to get wheels that were similar to the factory ones we don't get here, but choices are severely limited by the 5x100 stud pattern on the Prius.
Weight wasn't a factor in the choice.
