Correct. If the Prius is in Ready the ICE will operate until you run out of gas.

I guess I'm reading "hybrid system not operating" as critical-since it could be in ON without being in Ready if you never depressed the brake pedal to initialize the hybrid system.

I know I won't test this intentionally, probably won't occur at all since this is my third car with SKS and it just doesn't happen. Great convenience, no hassles, warns me if I leave with the key when it's running.

 

I remember the terminology used with the Gen2, and I suspect the Gen3 is the same, "ON" actually means Accessory Mode entered by pushing the ON button without depressing the brake. "Ready" means you pushed the ON button with the brake depressed and the car is ready to drive - or sit there and run for days.

 

uhh.. sitting on with the radio on.. without A/C.. it's about 1 gallon every 12 hours.. With A/C it's 1 gallon every 6 to 12 hours... so.. with 10 gallons ( haha.. 10 never happens ).. you have 3 to 5 days to find the car in Ready mode.. and turn it off.

 

It's ACC (switch is amber without pressing the brake pedal), a second press gets you ON (still amber without depressing the brake). Ready comes when you press the switch with the pedal having been depressed. The switch light is green once you depress the brake. ON alone lets you run the power windows without having to start the car, ACC will allow the radio but not windows.
