The very first time I used my emergency or parking brake, the small rubber petal came right off! Anyone else experience this? Not a good start!

I've done it once in the last 3 weeks. Of the several Toyota or Lexus models I've owned over the years, the only one that stayed in place was the Highlander Hybrid. With all the others I'd eventually find a way to kick that rubber boot off, usually several times a month.

yeah, mine came off in the first week too. You might try any of the adhesives out there like Shoe Goo as greylar suggested. No big deal...

It's under warranty. Take it back to the dealer.

All I can say is "Deal Breaker! Deal Breaker!" ....just kidding....glue it on, or have the dealer glue it on.

Also I guess Toyota's singing flora ad campaign might be more affective than I thought, because I'm pretty sure on every other car it's a brake Pedal, but I guess when you are in Harmony with Man, Nature and Machine it becomes a brake petal. Magical!....

All they can do is out it back on. I can do that in the comfort of my own garage.

Yours must be better looking. Most of us have pedals.

I left it off when it finally came loose the second time. The dealer put it back on under warranty, but apparently they have no TSB about glue.

It only slips out from under my foot 2 or 3 times a year so the pad isn't all that much of a need...

I've edited the subject to correct the spelling ;)

I agree w/ the other postings - take it to the dealer and get them to fix it - if it becomes repetitive, Toyota can revise the part, etc.

Re: Rubber Parking Brake Petal Came Off!

My first experience with the Gen III Prius involved no rubber petal on the parking brake. hehe

When I went to test drive the Prius last week, the salesman opened up the armrest console to show us the storage space, and there was the rubber petal. He spent the next few minutes trying unsuccessfuly to fit it back to the brake, but eventually gave up.

This was a Prius II, had 71 miles on it afte our test drive.

I took one of those wire wrap things - one that is about 8 inches long - wrapped it vertically midway on the pedal, trimmed off the excess on the wrap - and has not been another problem:)

OK, looks like I'm resurrecting a 'dead thread' - better than starting a new one.

This issue is happening to me, with increasing frequency. I can put it back on, but one of these days it is likely to get lost (probably w/ 36,001 mi on the clock...).

So... has anyone found the perfect solution?

    Thanks
    Tim

Tack it on with a little glue, or better yet, replace it if it is worn.

EZ fix - same happened right away on my new '08. Take one of those self-locking bands, the size that's about 8 inches long. Wrap it vertically around the middle of the pedal, pull tight & cut off the access. Mine continues to work perfectly. I now have 107K+ miles on the car - and we use the parking brake religiously, even in the garage.
