I live in Oregon, yes we get sunny days :) I like the way the tinting looks and I usually have all kinds of wine in my car (job). I am thinking about getting the 2010 Prius windows tinted but dont have a clue on what type or percentage of tint to do. Also, how do you find a reputable place in Oregon who wont mess your car up? Would like it on the dark side so people cant see in too easily if possible.Thx so much!

I have the rear window and rear sides at 20% and drivers doors at 50%. California doesnt allow tint on the drivers windows but 50% is pretty light and hopefully they won't bother me.

Does look like my car :) I would love to go darker to hide the wine if possible. Will see the resposnes here if it helps to gather info. PM me if you are on facebook. If so, lets hook up there also.

My bluetooth is working fine, not the best telephone sound quality but OK. I have the iPhone 3GS and the bluetooth music streaming is awesome. The range is surprising, I've left my phone in the house when moving the Prius in the driveway and it picks up the bluetooth signal almost 40 feet away through walls and starts playing music in the car.

Most of the heat is generated from the Sun coming through the front window. Toyota just had to have a black dash so it would heat up the interior even better. I did buy, I think, a Sun Shade for the front window. If you are just trying to keep the heat out, try tinting just the rear window to see what that will do for you.

If your car is out in the Sun during the day, I would make sure you have a really good coat of acrylic wax on your car especially the top, hood, and front bumper. Wax your windshield so you will have some protection for your dash.

I need it more for people not being able to see in since I am a wine rep and have lots of wine in my car every day. Hard to hide it in the cargo area sometimes. Plus I like the look of the darker tinting. People will think I am a rapper :)

That is a good reason to have all the windows done. The people who do that kind of work know Oregon law as to how dark you can go. The last thing you want is a police officer looking for an open bottle of wine. That and I'll bet you are hit up for samples all the time. My guess is that you have a lot of friends! I'm just off the five at exit 66. I'll take a case the next time you are passing by.

Lol, deal! Yes, it does draw attention. Even the gas attendant I always go to, asks me every time when he gets his sample. Thx for the info. You dont know anyone reliable in Pdx do you by chance?

Here are the Oregon tint requirements:

Oregon Window Tint Law - TintCenter.com

Can't recommend a tint shop because I'm way out here in the Eastern part of our state. I am going to have mine done also but I'll take it to Kennewick, WA quite a few good places up there.

Light dashes have far more glare in direct sun while driving. You either accept high heat absorption or dangerous glare.

Here in BC it's illegal to tint the front drivers compartment windows (I should know, I just got a $110 ticket for this on my last car) but I thought you might like to see my Blue Ribbon with 17% tint... It's darker than you're allowed in Oregon but I bet you could easily get away with 17% on the backs and 35% on the fronts, especially if you have a light interior. ;)

According to Oregon law, her side and rear windows all have to allow at least 35% light. Since the factory glass is already tinted in the 74% range, she can only legally use approximately 50% tint. Any state trooper is going to quickly spot anything darker. The bottom half of the hatch is factory smoked glass at 29% and may not be treated as a window for tint law purposes.

Your right about that ggood, the 35% is the total which includes the factory tint already there. I'm not sure about the rear window, a good tint shop should know though it must come up frequently.

I just read your actual law online at Car Tint: Find car tint (window tint, auto tint) state laws and avoid traffic tickets. There is a specific requirement that the tinting material be 50% or more, in addition to the 35% light transmittal requirement. You can go darker on "all windows of a multipurpose passenger vehicle that are behind the driver", but only if it has dual mirrors, as you said. However, "multipurpose passenger vehicle" is defined as one that carries 10 or fewer pasengers and is built on a truck platform or with special off road features. I'm guessing Prius doesn't qualify for the exception. Truly weird that an SUV gets treated differently than other passenger cars.

What's interesting about that is that minivans aren't built on a truck platform or have special offroad features but typically have darker tint than 35% on all of the back windows.

As far as who to take your car to, I was researching this recently and Alexia's was highly recommended by members of a BMW forum. This was far and away the recommended place to go around the PDX area. I have no personal experience though.
