Thought I'd post my first impressions of the Prius MY2010 I've had for three days.

Picked up my MY2010 Prius Pkg II on Monday in exchange for my Volvo S60R that had been tuned to 370 HP. Needed to offload the low MPG vehicle in favor of a high MPG vehicle and to reduce my overall auto expenses as I start down the road to retirement. :)

I've been following the Prius since 2005 and last Monday decided to make the switch knowing the Prius had entered its 3rd life and with WA state waiving all the Sales tax on the Prius thru 7/31/09.

I thought when entering the Toyota dealership I would have to lay down a deposit and get on a waiting list with no guarantee I'd get a car before 7/31/09.

Dealership had a Prius Pkg II on their lot with 162 miles on the ODO, a Security optional package installed and a Chip package that was outrageously priced.

Dealership wasn't offering me what I wanted on the Volvo S60R so I indicated I would buy the in Stock Prius I mentioned above on the spot if they raised their trade in value by $1000. They did and with a few hours I was without my S60R and owning the new MY2010 Prius.

I opted for extended warranty as Gen III had just been released and I know how expensive replacing computer modules can be. I also went for the pre-paid maintenance thru 45K miles.

I've had the Prius for just 3 days and really haven't learned how to drive it to get best MPG -- also remember I was coming from a Volvo with 370 HP.

Well.... the car's display claims I'm getting 54.9 MPG. :D My Volvo around town was delivering me 17 to 19 MPG.

I also have just installed the iPod adapter kit. Had to pull off several of the center face panels carefully and then took out 4 bolts holding the HU in. Connected up the adapter and routed the cable to the iPod in the lower glove box. Put all the panels back and I now have glorious music at my finger tips and with much better control over the iPod music playlists vie steering wheel and HU display panel than I had in my Volvo using its iPod adapter setup.

I'm very pleased at this time.

54.9 is great. My current vehicle has about 260 hp and I already know it will be a big adjustment driving with 1/2 the horsepower. I will drive very conservatively for the first month (break-in period) and then begin driving normally. I am interested to see the difference in my MPG's.

Congrats on becoming a Prius owner!

    Hi Baz,

Are you in the UK ? If so that would be 54.9 mpg Imperial, or 45.75 mpg US.

We don't have our 2010 cars yet in the UK - launch is 1 August - and no Prius here is designated II. They're called T3, T4 and T Spirit. Must be 54.9 miles per US gallon.

It's not as much of an adjustment as you would think. I dropped nearly 8x the HP of my previous vehicle and there was little transition. :)

Nope - I live in Woodinville, WA. Mind you, I do hail from UK as does my wife who's from IoM (TT races and all). :)

BTW -- I notice that the display for Miles to Empty Fuel tank will not reset if the tank is topped up with say just a few gallons (maybe 2 to 3 gallons). The Owner's Manual states this so I'm not too upset. However, I do wonder why this is an issue for Toyota because in my previous Volvo this was not a problem. Does anyone know how to correct this so the Miles to Empty tank does reset no matter how little fuel is added to fill the tank ? Thanks.... :)

Just a guess, but more than likely it'll reset if you reset the trip. (press and hold "trip" button")

A 2001 GMC ext.cab Z71 fullsize truck with twin-turbos and methanol injection. It did 800rwhp at 18psi. LOL The engine was holding up well but the radiator couldn't keep up so we stopped there. It was pretty nice for a stock 5.3L block with just a cam and stock 6.0L heads. It was a total polluter though and I couldn't stand driving it because of that. So I sold it to my buddy who owns a performance shop and continues to mod it. :)

    Hi Ron,

He has updated his personal information to include the country now. I was not familiar with Woodinville being a US or UK locations.

off topic a bit but i think i bought your Volvo !!.. what dealership did you trade in the car for?

i think this because the s60 r is rare and the only Toyota dealer who had the car was near you and i bought it a month after your post here i think..

we asked why did the guy trade in this car for a prius.. they said GPA and his wife wanted a prius..

I'd love to talk to you about the car if in fact i have your old car!!
