I have just received an email from Toyota pointing me to their web site. This is what I found for the new Gen III Prius due for release very soon.

Toyota is introducing high-tech systems in new Prius to improve safety by reducing driver eye movement | news.toyota.com.au

Toyota also announced extending the warranty on all Prius traction battery packs fitted to all Australian sold Prius from 100,000km or 5 years to 160,000km or 8 years. This applies to all Prius not just the new Gen III.

Next Wednesday I am off to Sydney for a pre-release drive at Toyota Australia's invitation. I can't wait!

Hope the base model doesn't cost at over 40k with all that...

You won't have to be talked into it, the car will do all the talking.

That's an interesting shot of the heads-up - looks like it is going through the Epping tunnel (one of the many road tunnels that we have in Sydney, but the only one that is three lanes for most of the length). I will have to keep my eyes peeled if there is already one running around the place.

Well keep your eyes peeled on Wednesday.
It isn't in Adelaide, our only 3 lane tunnel is curved.

Well then they will have to wait, 2010 doesn't start for almost 6 months here. This is being touted as the 2009 model here. You can't convince an Aussie that a car made in 2010 can be sold and delivered in 2009, that's a North American thing. I'd love someone to explain how a car we all saw pictures of in 2008, was on the drawing board most likely in 2004 or 2006, a heap of us went to look at and crawl all over in January 2009, and is being sold right now in July 2009 can be a 2010 car.

I assume they really just want me to help sell them, and I suspect they would like me to buy one too. I somehow doubt they will be inviting every potential buyer to drive the car in Sydney next week.

I really am getting excited about getting hands on with the new 2009 Gen III Prius.

You can almost guarantee that this feature will only be available in the "techpack" and most likely at the expense of the solar roof.
I am really interested to see what versions we get here. Im guessing a 3, 4(leather upgrade) and 5. They would be crazy to include the tech pack over solar with the aussie climate.
Cant wait to see next week.

Or do you mean Lane Cove Tunnel? Yeah, it does look like it. And I drive along Epping Road quite often, so I guess I'll have to keep my eyes peeled too.

Why? It is standard on every European Prius, the Australians could be just as happy.

Unfortunately I will be in Hong Kong on that day. :(

Yes, I meant the Lane Cove Tunnel. As it runs under Epping road I always think of it as the Epping tunnel.

Could easily be a UK motorway tunnel! We've had some of our pre-launch events already, and they took one on a trip around the country to show to some dealers and early test-drives.

The HUD is quite nice but I found myself still looking at the regular display! It's just what you're used to I think. We're getting it on all three grades, from £18k T3 to £21k T Spirit.

It shows the speed and optionally the hybrid system indicator as well. The T Spirit (with built-in navigation system) will also show driving direction arrows at the point it announces the turn.

It will be on every Gen III Prius sold in Australia!
Solar roof will be on all iTech, nav will be an option on the base model and iTech I believe.

That's alright, I've heard many people refer to it as Epping Tunnel before. It's just a name anyway.

So they won't introduce any new models? I think they should, that 10k difference is crazy.

Still only 2 models but the nav with reverse cam will be an option I suspect on both models. I agree, $9000 price difference is excessive which is why I can't see myself in an iTech.

Thats good news on the HUD.
I heard that aust would most likely get 3 models so there wasnt such a large price difference.
I just wonder if it will be tha adv tech pack or the solar. Or if version 5 will be available at all.
We are just a colony after all :D

Australia will still have 2 models....Base and I-tech. The I-tech gets everything except the 17" wheels and LKA as standard.
There is an option pack of the Nav and IPA offered for the base model.
HUD will be standard on both.

Deliveries of cars to Dealers begin on 16/7. Finally!! Still no definite pricing available yet.

So I guess if you think about it that is 3 models.
    - Base
    - Base with nav and park assist
    - i-Tech loaded with everything but 17" wheels and LKA which wont be available in Australia.

Will the 17" wheels be available here?
