Why is this so expensive.... Why....

neither do i...better than the dealer making a LOT of money (install price was $429!!)

 

I am working with someone on making them at a cost to me of under $100. I will show those Stealerships!

But to all you Stealerlship lovers out there, you go ahead and keep giving your money to them. They don't care that your paychecks are less because of the economy.

 

I am so confused, lets see if I have this right.

There is a product with no functional value, that serves only to show your sense of style. (and your available cash)

The original poster feels that this ego enhancer is overpriced.

Other posters point out that it is cheaper than the version sold at dealerships.

Now someone has convinced himself that this constitutes a defense of the dealerships?

I sure am glad all my cars came with entirely functional plastic door sills, stock.

 

I am soon ordering these for my 2010 Toyota Prius and Premium Package with Solar Panels that I am picking up on September 01, 2009. The price shown on the Toyota Canada Website including installation is $234.17 plus HST. Grant you, that could vary a bit depending on complexity of installation at the Dealer, but compared to the US pricing plus Dollar Conversion I don't think that is that bad of a price! Only thing I wish is that the lights weren't blue. My Prius is going to be Blizzard Pearl and I would have just preferred a white light. Might look into getting the LED changed before getting them installed.

 

Did you install them yourself? And if so, what is involved in doing it out of curiosity?

In the real world, where you have yet to dwell, time is money. At $50/hr you couldn't afford to spend too much time teaching the stealerships a lesson if you plan to sell these for $100.

Don't forget about product liability insurance and warranties you would need to provide. Then after you make these you need people to package them, prepare them for shipping. Also you'll need to rent or own a warehouse and provide shipping. You may have to raise your price to $110 to cover all those costs.

 

$230 is expensive for lighted sills? If you really believe that then don't buy them and feel superior by laughing at all the rubes that do if it makes you feel better about yourself.

Guessing $100 for mats means a 60% gross margin, which after shipping, COGS, small dealer profit is probably a 10% net margin product at best.

Rest, give it a rest. Going through life thinking dealerships and everyone else owes you something for free and that all corporations and profits are bad was childish even when we were all stoned 18 year olds whining about "the Man". :mod:
