The dealership offered teflon coating for the paint and interior on my new 2010 prius IV, now I am wondering if it was such a good idea for spending the extra money, if it was worth it or not. What do you think a good idea or not. Marcie

Most likely not. Let us know how it performs.
Car dealers make huge markups on these add ons, that's why they push them so hard.

No, only protects against bird poop, doesn't need to be waxed as often and protects the car from the elements. Also helps barcelona red from oxidizing. Thank you for your reply. Marcie

I had the BMW dealer install the clear bra on my 2009 Touring. It covers the bumper, lights, and about a third of the hood. It's the same as installed on BMW/Audi's, and so far, I'm happy with it.

My old Prius took a beating, and this should minimize that.

I did some searching, and had a similar question about teflon wax. Did anyone get the teflon wax on their prius?

    Agreed, waste of money.

How much were they looking to charge you? They sell car wax with it in it for under $10... [IMG]

Granted what they use may, and I mean may, be better than this but it is still nothing special IMO.

If teflon sticks to nothing, how do you get it to stick to the paint? :p

Well I didn't get it on my car however when I went with my roommate to get her prius they offered it for $450 to do the outside and inside of the car. She's a nurse so it won't hurt her pocket to much but I felt like it wasn't really necessary for my car since I park it in the garage. But I would like to know what type of teflon the 3rd party people use to apply on the cars. Cause I know that toyota outsources that stuff.

    don't waste your money

i had it on my last car and after a little research you still have to wax your car on a regular basis to keep it up.

The biggest benefit to Teflon coating is that it reduces friction of the money sliding out of your wallet and into the hand of the salesman.

    Keith

P.S. You want to buy a bridge? I also have some tires for sale that will last the life of your car or 20,000 miles - which ever comes first.

LOL! So do you think it's F'd up what these finance people at the dealership are doing? Cause I told her that if im paying $500 bucks for this service and you guys are going to take it on my loan I'm really paying like $1000 for it by the time my car is paid off then... and she didn't have anything to say hahaha!

-HOW- do you think they apply Teflon? It doesn't melt until it's -VERY- hot. Teflon dust mixed in with the wax? So when the wax washes off so does the teflon. So does the teflon protect the wax?

    Snake oil!!!

They stopped the snake oil salesmen from selling teflon in oil. Teflon is a fluorocarbon, and when burnt (in the engine) releases fluorine into the air. NICE!

To teflon coat something it's a very "high tech" and involved process. You can't just rub it on!

They are okay, but only use them on low heat.

Besides, being green, teflon has questionable environmental and health concerns.

I really didn't know that Teflon was any particular color.
