I placed an order yesterday at Fort Bend Toyota for 2010 Prius III, Blizzard Pearl and Dark Grey interior and I also put $500 deposit on it. I just got a called from the sales person informed me about the factory is not making the Prius III with the solar roof and I am FORCED to get the Prius IV if I want the solar roof. I just called two number to Toyota 1-800-GO-TOYOTA and the other customer service number in Toyota.com First one told me to go to another dealership or even go out of states. Second is told me the Texas Region is own by a private company and they can pick whatever options they want for that Region's market. But he also told me I can request a thing call Prefence Order, which the factory will make exactly what I want but it might takes up to 12 weeks. He also told me usually dealership will not inform customer or allow customer to do the Prefence order. I might have to try around a few dealership and find one that will willing to put the Prefence order for me.

**I asked the sales to place one prefence order for me and I asked him how long it will take. He told me he tried to do the prefence order for another customer on a tacoma truck and took them five months still no feedback and gave up at the end. I told them I got 4 months before I got the money to get the car so I am willing to give it a shot and we will see what to do at the 3rd month. He told me the computer wouldn't let him but the person who takes the order is in their dealership, so he can try to order it. I told them I wouldn't mind to take the Prius IV with the solar roof if they are willing to give me a big discount on it, since I am getting forced to get somethign that I am not expecting to get. Which the answer was the expected NO!!!! It is really that hard to get something that should be available at the first place? I am not trying to get Prius III with LED. I am just trying to get what they are suppose to be offering to customer like ME!!!!!

Not all models and package combinations will be available in all regions. This has even been stated by the Prius Team.

For example, here in NYC, we cannot get the Prius V with just navigation. To get navigation here, you have to get the AT package.

All this can change in the future, but for now this is how it is. When you goto Toyota.com and build a prius with the build your prius thing, and enter your zip, does it show that a Prius III with solar roof is available? If it does then you stand a chance but if it doesn't then the dealer is not lieing to you.

Try calling dealers outside your region, I'm sure that way you will be able to probably find one eventually though a road trip would be in order to get it.

Isn't this the 2nd thread on the same subject? Your salesperson is lying to you. Build a Toyota in fact shows a model III with solar roof package in the GST region. It may already be spoken for, and there may not be any others on the ground in Texas right now, but clearly GST is distributing them in Texas. You need to e-mail several area dealers with a request for the specific model and options you want. Only deal with internet sales managers and only call back the ones that give you proper quotes. When you do the deal, have them specify the car's VIN. If you are in a hurry, then I guess you'll have to settle for whatever is currently available or allocated.

I don't know anything about regions, but I have personally seen a Winter Gray/Misty Gray III with Solar at a dealer near Chicago. It was already spoken for, but I have seen one for a fact.

In different regions of the nation, certain models and packages are n/a.

It was hard here in SoCal to find a III with sunroof. I think they are quite rare across the country. :D

What bugs me is that the Toyota commercials and web campaigns focus on the sunroof and AT options, yet every dealer I have been to has told me that there will only be a few coming to this region in the 3 months. Two dealers gave me the same spreadsheet for our five state area showing the region's summer allotments, and they are accurate in what they are telling me. (I live in Maryland.)

In that case, the dealer IS able to order one for you. Therefore, he's lying to you about the factory not being able to make a III w/ SR. I'd try a few other dealers around your area.

My dealer has told me they have a V coming in with AT package. But he said the solar only comes with the III package.

I told him according to the website he is incorrect. That each package encompasses the package below it, so in affect Package V has everything 4, 3, etc has in it.

But is it possible to get V without the solar? If so, I will tell the dealer to search for it. If it is not true I will tell him to check again.

Solar is only on models III & IV (adds leather), not V. There have been numerous threads and complaints on this subject, but the bottom line is, not this year.

as what other people said, the reason why the V doesn't have Solar Roof are because of the weight problem. It might hurt the number of MPG combine with the extra stuff V get and the roof.

The issue of too much weight is the reason for it not being offered. They took a lot of time to reduce weight in a large number of components to help increase mpg's.
For the entire state of Hawaii, we will be allotted only 2 orders for solar roof per month... We have a total of 8 orders for the company which means people who just ordered will have to wait 4+ months at the very least...

My dealer advised the solar roof does not work over 105 outside temperature (I live in Phoenix). He was lying, as he finally found one and it works fine. So none on the lot, so it doesn't work is the story.
