I have a dealer telling me that the car came from the factory with the following accessories (on the invoice):
    Paint Protection Film
    Illumiated Door Sill
    Rear Bumber aplplique
    Wheel Locks
    All weather floor mats

Now I don't mind 3 and four, but one and two add over $750 to price and I have no idea what the merits of paint film are nor do I want it. My question is do you think these possibly came from the factory or are they dealer add ons and is he full of it. Not only that but he claims that all 5 package V's coming in to the NY area are outfitted the exact same way and that only 2% are package v's (in the NY area).

Thank you to all in advance.

None of those are Factory installed options, but are all Port Installed Options. These are usually able to be ordered as needed, although many folks here (myself included) were 'forced' to accept floor mats as part of the deal.

As for the Paint Protection film, some folks swear by it, and it does seem to be an effective way to prolong the new look, but at what cost?

As for the fact that "All NY Vs are such equipped, I would not believe this, as others here have mentioned only ordering the mats on theirs from NY. I would call them on it. That said, HIS dealership may be setting this on all inbound vehicles, as each of them sold at MSRP adds to their bottom line. If this is the case, then I would just call other local dealers to see what they are requiring.

I drive a Prius V, Navi (not advanced tech)and feel that the floormats, bumper protector and illuminated door sills all add to the car, as opposed to detracking from it. But that is just me.

Yeah, not factory add ons, but Port adds. However the dealer may have had no more choice on these than he would have had the factory installed them.

The cars are coming from the factory or port with all those options, because the dealership ordered them that way. Check with several other dealerships. Unless the whole region is doing exactly the same, you should be able to find somebody with a nearly bare car.

One of my nearby dealers had over $2400 in 'required' options from the port. Another dealer, about 10 miles down the same street, 'required' only the carpeted floor mats, and even those were added at the dealership.

Never accept the dealership's statistics. If they can't determine exactly which cars are coming and how many are coming in the next few weeks (my experience in northern VA from 3 dealerships), how can they determine 3% of the entire state receive "xx" cars? They're full of it and should be punched in the throat...just kidding!! Don't do that. It's just frustrating dealing with their lies. Sure it may not be up to the dealership regarding which cars get mandatory add-ons or not but they don't have to lie about it. By saying that about the state of NY, they're also trying to make sure you don't go elsewhere. THEY ARE TRYING TO TAKE YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY FROM YOU. Now tell all of us how that makes you feel? I would tell your sales rep to give you a call when they feel like earning your money. In the mean time, you'll be on other dealership lots in person this week.

I nicely showed my sales rep an email from 2 other dealerships that were contacting me about the prius from my blackberry. He got the picture I think because I noticed him speeding up the process.

Good luck!! Remember, it's YOUR money. Just have a little patience for another couple weeks. The cars ARE COMING MORE AND MORE NOW. Get multiple dealerhips involved and make sure you tell them all the other dealerships you're working with. Tell all of them you'll be purchasing from the firsts dealership that has "this" car exactly at "this" price. I'd recommend going to at least 4 dealerships.

Thanks to all for the quick reply. i am getting antsy and would like the car. I may wait, but I may also be forced to live with it. At least they are not charging "market adjustment" and are charging MSRP. I quess I am getting something for my money, although paint film seems dubious at best. Does anyone know if the flim can peel off and will it ever make my car look worse for wear?

Any more info on this paint film. Seems like the old undercoating. totally worthless on a new car. I am also concerned that it might peel and really look terrible in say two or three years. Does anyone know the real story about the film and long-term reliability?

If you use the little google search button in the upper right on the Prius Chat forums, it will search through the postings here. You will find many postings about the paint film. Most people who have paid up for this, seem to have been happy with it. Other carmakers (like BMW and Mercedes) have offered this for years.

While I did not buy it on mine, one of my friends had this on a new Camry a few years back, and the pain in the front still looks BRAND NEW.

Paint Protection Film--put VentureShield film on as much of the car as you can as the paint scratches easily. Pass on Toyota's install.

Rear Bumber aplplique--the black rubber one is more effective but this is better than nothing. Guess what happens the first time cargo slides over your bumper.

Wheel Locks--junk. Buy some at any auto parts store if you really want them.

All weather floor mats--good idea. If you get a discount card for the Parts Dept. buy them later or buy an aftermarket set.
