Hey Y'all - I just received my new Prius Navi Hood. I was having so much sun glare on the navi screen that it was driving me crazy. I LOVE this hood! It's different than on the Gen I or II because we don't have the same layout. The Gen III hood is a solid piece of "smoky" plexiglass(?) like a pair of sunglasses & it fits in the groove around the "frame" of the screen. I was surprised that it was so solid -- no wiggle or vibration at all. It looks like it's OEM. THANKS to Dan at Prius Hoods and to Prius Shop for carrying them!

I've had no glare issues with my nav screen (can't say the same for the A/C temp screen), but I must say--that item really takes away from the clean lines of the interior, and to my eye doesn't look anything like it's OEM. But that's just me.

Maybe it's just the south Texas sun, but I've really had problems seeing the screen -- especially when the sun is low in the sky. I travel in an east/west direction a lot of the time. Also, I don't think that the pic is that great.

I agree that it does detract from the nice lines of the interior. I'm surprised that Toyota didn't design a glare free type of screen. As everyone realizes this was an issue in the previous GEN Prius and was solved with a hoodie. An easy solution would be something that slid out in the event the glare was too much. However, it's not THAT bad.

The screen has the same type of non-glare finish as on PC LCD displays. There's no glare to speak of, and even in the brightest sunlight, I can see everything fine.

Perhaps the OP needs to increase the brightness and/or contrast of the screen. I did that when I did the initial configuration of my car.

That shield looks straight up ghetto, but if you like it, more power to you. Reminds me of people who stick newspapers in their drivers side windows to block the sun.

I did increase the brightness to the max, but it only helped a little. Maybe I get the glare as a reflection off of all the water around us. :)

I guess this is an instance of "to each his own."

Must be, I'm not noticing a problem driving around in the city. The hood looks OK to me, but does it make it awkward to access the buttons on the left side of the screen?

I tend to agree - does not look "2010", and quite 'utilitarian'. I didn't get Nav for various reasons, but do notice the glare from the audio and HVAC lens. And reflections from the dash/speaker grilles on the windshield.

For some reason these issues seem to disappear during evening hours....;)

I was thinking tacky, but whatever floats your boat. I would look for another solution, YMMV.

i dont think glare free is possible. where i live, the sun angle is extreme to the point that even the sunshade shown will not be effective all the time.

its not glare thats an issue for me, its relative brightness and the Sun will win that battle every time.

other than that...is this available at the PC store?

thanks for the insightful post

It definitely could use some refinement; perhaps in the future there will be better version of the hood. but if it works, it works, and i would def. use it if it actually helps (still waiting for my prius...)

Because of the location and positioning of the screen on the 2010, this type of hood is not going to look as good on the 2010 as it did on the Gen II.

That said, I suspect that it probably looks better in person or in a zoomed out photo than it does in the close-up photos. And if it solves a problem for the user, then that's more important.

That's the way I think about it & works well for us. Thanks.

I agree. It really looks cheap. Hopefully a better one will become available. The NAV screen hood design for earlier year Prius models was much better.

As far as glare is concerned, during certain hours of the day the sun almost completely washes out the view of my unshielded screen. I live in Ohio.

I too find the glare problematic and I have the hood on order. For me, the glare problem is exacerbated by my sunglasses. With them off, I can see the NAV screen better. Of course, without my sunglasses, I cannot see the road, so that solution isn't exactly working either. Hopefully I'll be able to live with the look of the hood.
