so thats why toyota only got it with the 15inch wheels.

but ofcourse the specs from the 15inch are the same like the gen 2 16inch also 195 wide

so why not mount the 16inch? ( less earodynamic wheel covers? )

    look at this video

The best part was in the begining when he said you can "get your geek off". lmao!

Where did he get the specs for the weight on the solar roof?

Good, I've wondered how much weight is added. In the U.S. it might be more. I believe that in the U.K. it is not a fully operational sunroof, just a solar panel to power ventilation. Thus the sunroof motor and sliding hardware would add some more weight.

Err I doubt it. There might be some misinformation floating around the UK.

It'll be interesting to see what the take up is on the SPM option in the UK.

Looking at the tyre thread, it seems like most of the Prius IV Solars are in the Pacific Northwest, the rainiest part of the US lol. I know it's only representative of PC members but I thought it was rather ironic.

I wish I could know how much of the weight is Sunroof and how much is Solar Panel. I really think I wish Toyota had worked on just creating a lightweight sunroof.

I think I'd rather have a sunroof, sans solar panel and ventilation fan and 17 inch wheels and Tech Package then Sunroof and Solar panel but forced to abandon Tech Package and bigger wheels. So I wish Toyota had put their design energies into producing a sunroof that could work with the Model V.

The solar panel and the ventilation fan might be nice in specific enviroments on specific days, but overall it's a little gimmicky for me and I'm worried about long term durability of the Solar Panel.

For those in the US too lazy to do the math, 28 kilos is about 62 lbs.

Living in The Northwest, I can tell you why we want a sunroof so badly. When you do get the sun, it's great and you want to take advantage of it as much as is possible.

I'd probably want a nice, cool, sunblocking hardtop if I lived in a sun state.

    Hi All,

This is a reason why the Sun Roof is not as functional as some other ways to provide light and ventialtion from above. A long time ago I posted a link to the picture of Space Ship 1. Would that not be a better roof treatment, with rotary vents in some of the portals? And it would not intefere with the solar panels on cars that have both.

Not enough out-of-the-box thinking in the 2010 interior I think.

The UK Prius does have the full sunroof that opens. Earlier today I called up my closest dealer and asked about the wheel sizes because that is something that was annoying me and I wanted to know if I could get the 17" wheels put on at the dealers once the car has been delivered and the quote was, "aye, but it'll bloody cost you mate!"

Unfortunately he didn't know how much it would cost me, lol. But he did say that the 17" wheels give 2MPG less than the 15" ones. So i'm pondering on whether or not to keep the 15" ones.

And tbh, a solar panel in the roof is a bloody good option. It doesn't get ALL that warm here in the UK at summer so we don't really need the fan like you guys in the US do. The reason i'll be forking out the money to have it installed is because once my warranty is up, i'll be hacking the solar panel and have it power other things. Sure it isn't all THAT powerful, but its a little more than nothing!

What is the output of the solar panels?

what about NO solar panel and the 15 inch wheels

this will then increase mpg by?.....5mpg?

then i want the 15inch from the gen 2 those are not as wide 185 agains 195 from the 15inch gen 3

the solar panel adds and losing the slope in the normal roof togheter i guess will mean some X lose on mpg.

    Sorry to threadjack.....
It's a popular misconception, New York City, Memphis, Washington DC, Miami, Houston, and Philadelphia actually get more rainfall than Seattle/Portland. Just don't tell anyone. The more misinformed the general (American) public, that can't find that information on their own, the better it is to live here. Nothing wrong with Americans, just the "igna'int" ones...:p

To cite the info I gave out:

But concerning the usefulness of a solar roof, Seattle has far fewer sunny days than the other cities you cited, since it drizzles a lot in the pacific northwest (not lots of rain, but constantly overcast), compared to heavy rain storms elsewhere, with long periods of sunshine. The time I spent in Seattle reminded me a lot of when I lived in Amsterdam.

    See below--sunny days per year:
    Seattle: 58
    New York City: 98
