I'm supposedly getting my 2010 next week, and I'm buying it from a dealership 2 hours away. For that reason, I'm going in to the dealership today to nail down a price on my trade-in. If they aren't going to offer me a price I can live with, I'd like to know now so I can try to do better before next weekend. I ran Edmund's "True Market Value" calculation on my 2004 Subaru Forester, and got $8760 as the trade-in value. However, in the current economic climate, I'm not sure how realistic it is to expect that price. And of course, the only leverage I have now is to just not sell it to them: I've already signed a sales agreement on the new car. So, for any of you have gotten their new 2010's and traded in another vehicle (especially if the old one is not a Toyota) how did you do? Did you come anywhere near the blue book or TMV? Thanks, Melody
Oh, and by the way, I've run the "True Market Value" calculation 3 times, weeks apart each time, and got a different value each time. Today's calculation was actually higher than the one I ran earlier. It's at $8789 now. So, apparently, they're updating their pricing continuously, based on the most recent data.
Hi my fellow Huntsvillian, Living in Huntsville, I assume you're going to Nashville or Franklin? I bought our 2010 Prius from Serra over in Decatur two weeks ago. Bill Penny sure works hard to not get our business ... The dealer offered $2,700 for our 2001 Echo with 29,500 miles. Unhappy with it, I mentioned it to one of my co-workers and he bought it for $3,000. The KBB range: $2,800-$3,500 So everyone is happy. I got $300 more than the dealer offered; my co-worker got a low mileage, 32 MPG Echo for a great price; and the dealer didn't have to deal with a nine year old Echo. But your situation is different. Low trade value is the main reason I didn't get my Priorty order Prius. Dealer would only give 10500. for our 08 Prius. And since I'm very happy with our 08 Prius anyway I decieded not to get the 10 Prius. I'm sure the dealer was happy since he can sell the 10 Prius for more money than we were getting it for.
10500 for an 08 Prius????? I'm getting 19k for my PKG5 with 15k miles and I feel like we are getting hosed since we paid 26600 last year. Trying to sell it for 20k but so far no luck. G
I looked up trade-in value for my 2005 w/93,000 miles and I almost got sick to my stomach so I didn't even bother walking to a dealership.
My dealer offered about $5,000 less than the Edmunds/KBB trade-in value so needless to say I'm keeping that '06 HiHy!
We were much in the same boat... i.e. those slow transports from Japan. Hit up our dealer when they confirmed the delivery date. Our '01 Passat w/ 117K miles was $3785 at best for KBB. Dealer offered $3200 - had us over a barrel. Paying MSRP for the Prius is our choice , but the trade-in was unnerving. Withing 24 hours WE sold it ourselves on Craigslist. Showed it twice. AND got $2K more than the dealership offered. Now we have our downpayment and less paperwork. Without our second vehicle for a week, but managing the excitement. Have you tried other outlets, used car lots, relatives ??? Best of Luck.
I actually got 1k above KBB trade-in price and was very impressed by it. The reasons for such good deal after discussing with my dealer were: 1- My trade-in was a Honda CR-V in very good condition, only 2 years old, first owner. 2-The CR-V is currently the Honda that is holding more value according to kbb and Honda itself. 3-the dealer got 3 more competitors who were all offering slight above KBB, so they wanted to make sure they beat competition, 4-used CR-Vs sell fast, even in times like these In reality, the actual market is very good for used cars, so you should expect to get at least kbb for yor trade-in.
Hey Melody, hopefully you can get a good trade value on your Forester. Our dealership sells Subaru, Toyota, Scion, Suzuki, and Lexus. I know that the Forester has a great resale value as they are quality vehicles and get high marks on safety and reliability. The KBB website is what most dealers will use and you need to look at probably the "fair" condition which is considered "normal" condition. Keep in mind that if you need new tires, dent/ding repair, and any of your power features aren't working, you will incur deductions. Good luck and hope that you enjoy your new Hybrid!
I got such a low ball offer for my '04 Prius, that I am going to keep it and cancel the order for a 2010. Offer was $2500 under Blue Book trade value.
Daily driver cars are not a good investment. We have bought all our cars new for cash and intend to keep them for a very long time. The cost per mile goes down with each passing year. Toyota's and Honda's can last a lifetime and make really great daily drivers. Buying a new car every years is financial folly. Dan
I received $12500 for my 2006 Prius w/nav with 54000 miles. About $500 under what KBB said it was worth but I did get the car for $680 under MSRP.
I was offered $15,500 at three dealerships, here in Washington State, in Janurary of this year when I went to trade my '08 Camry Hybrid in on the Prius. My trade only had 13,300 miles..I had paid $28,889 for it new, last year. It wasn't the high end model but it had the jbl premium audio package and a couple other goodies..I see some of the sturggling car makes offering vehicle value protection come trade in time, and they said it couldn't be done..lol
would never consider trade in. but going by going market price, would have been disappointed. i ended up just keeping both for now. with 4 vehicles, insurance is killing me. looking to dump a few here. maybe Zenn... most definitely truck (or at least have someone else pay insurance. its not even parked at my house anymore). besides, will never find out how far a Pri will go if i dont hang on it em longer
Received $10,600 for my 06 Package 8 with 71,000 miles. No bites when I offered it for sale privately and Car Max was only willing to pay $9,000 (no trade-in sales tax benefit). The miles really killed me. My dealer immediately put it on the lot for $17K as a Certified Used Car; two weeks later, the price is now $16K. My guess is it will sell for around $13K as soon as somebody buys the 2010 Prius Package II they have at $23,979 MSRP.
[first post] Picked up my red III today from Vanderstine Toyota near Rochester, NY. As far as we can tell, we're the first '10 Prius in town. I called every dealer from Buffalo to Syracuse a few weeks back & this was the only one with a firm delivery date. We got $300 under KBB for our 2005 Subaru & paid MSRP with no port add-ons. I feel pretty good about it (and LOVE the car!). We had considered selling it ourselves, but it seemed like a fair price & saved us a lot of hoop jumping to do the trade-in.
I'm guessing he would have liked your 08 at 10.5K. He could make as much on it then as he did the 2010.
Wow, I traded my 07 TCH with 67,000 miles. Got 15.9K in trade against a 09 HH after a $4200 discount on the HH.
