I have to sell my 2010 Prius II! How much is it worth?

Toyota will do no modifications to the seat, nor safety equipment, nor ECU, etc...

 

I read more of your other thread. Sorry to hear about your severe back problems!

I think it's safe to say Toyota did not much put much lumbar support into the Prius II and III models. I hope Toyota continues to elevate driver/passenger comfort as a priority, something Honda seems to do very well with in the models I've sat in (Civic, Fit, Insight, Accord, etc..)

Very sorry to hear of your continuing problems. I can see how, without knowing the exact cause of the problem it's tough to hit upon a solution with cushions, etc. Since selling the Prius is so unappealing, I still wonder if it would be worth the time to speak with the Boston chiropractor I suggested in your other thread. He's really something special and has a very strong interest in ergonomics. He'd talk with you on the phone at no charge so you could both decide if it seems worthwhile to have an office visit. He might be able to help you isolate the cause of your pain and suggest possible fixes. (Another idea would be an osteopath interested in ergonomics, or maybe even an orthopedist.) I don't know if Dr. Standring or another doc would be able to help. But to me, given the bad situation you're in, maybe worth a try.

Try JoAnn Fabrics (I think you have them there) It's a fabric store that offers a lot of different thicknesses and densities in foam - more options to try and you can 'carve' off as much as you need.

We're all hoping you find a soft solution and that you DON"T have to sell the car - we need you for the New England Prius meet in the fall!!

 

If you know which car seats does not give you back pain, start from there and figure out what is different compared to the Prius seat.

 

As I read through this discussion, I was thinking 'I wonder what his physiotherapist would say?' Not to belittle your problem in any way, because I understand how painful and debilitating back problems can be, but I can't imagine any seat being comfortable for you while you're in such pain. This strikes me as more of a medical issue than a reason to sell your car. I apologise if you've already addressed this, or explained your reasons in another thread I haven't read.

 

Steve, that sucks big time but..... why dont you see if the dealer will trade it in on a package 4 with the lumbar. He may not gouge you too much

 

This Might Be an Option. BUT Do a Good Test Drive or rent one for a weekend.

 

I know in my state that your car would be sold by a private party as USED vehicle therefore No Sale Tax to new buyer ...Good luck:dance:

Have you brought your car to a doctor/chiropractor/ergonomics specialist to evaluate why it is bothering you so much?

It would be even better if you could find a place to drive right into the doctor's room.

 

Steve, I can certainly empathize with your predicament as I too have suffered from chronic back pain that at its worst, would dehalibitate me for weeks. I had to go to a sports therapist, acupuncturist, and chiroprator for treatment and therapy.

Have you considered this a product such as this OBUS FORME® Products ?

In any case, I really hope that you find a suitable solution short of selling your new car.

 

patsparks has a good idea. A Recaro or similar seat would help with the pinched nerve and allow you to keep from getting taken to the cleaners on the sale of your car. Something to think about.

This idea is worth pursuing. In our office, there are many people who have used the services of an ergonomic specialist to help them with sitting at a desk in front of a computer all day. Chairs have been modified for people with back problems who attest to good results.

 

A replacement seat was already discussed earlier in this thread and is not an option for the OP.

 

I have been looking in here for a while, and I think that abandoning the custom seat idea due to airbag compatability and seat belt monitoring is premature.

Air bags and seat belts monitoring are common enough in new cars that any custom installer who doesn't have multiple solutions in not much of a custom installer.

There could be several solutions.

1. As Winebuff suggests, start with ordering a Prius IV replacement seat which should plug right into existing wiring and satisfy computer. If toyota says it is not availabel yet, don't take no for an answer. ADA may require them to make resonable accomodations before forcing you to take a loss likely to be well over the cost of a $500 to $1500 seat.

2. Have custom shop harvest all electronics from Prius OEM seat and integrate them into custom seat. Then the computer should be fine, unless it uses a camera with pattern recognition to confirm the electronics remain in the original seat.

3. For the add padding option, pull the upolstry off OEM seat, add all you like over the OEM electronics, and then re-upolster.
