    Hello,

    I have a question for the owners of den 2010 Prius:

    Are there still the four Hybrid-Stages as there are in the 2003-2009 Prius?

    You know:
    Stage 1 (Warming up - ICE wont stop until a certain Temp is reached)
    Stage 2 (ICE stops but responses very quickly when needed)
    Stage 3 (ideal Temp is reached and ICE does not stop at lower speeds until the Car ist stopped completely for at least 5 - 10 seconds.) It then stops in the 2008 Prius with a small earthquake, and that´s how you get finally to
    Stage 4 (the full hybrid mode)

    Did anyone check it out yet?
    Are there different Stages?

    Not sure if the stages are different (wasn't this question asked in Detroit), but Stage 2 can be reached much more quickly, and on warm days, has been a starting point for me. In fact, the ICE didn't start at all until higher speed driving was required in these cases.

    Test drove one this morning while waiting for mine on order. Fantastic! Power mode gives it a much needed punch if you are getting onto a fast highway. Smoother transition between battery/gas engines. Overall, pleased that I held out for a 2010 instead of getting a 2009. Front seats much more luxurious in my opinion, too.

    Thanks for posting about the rear headrests ... I was wondering why you could push that button yet the headrests didn't hold in a higher position ... derp!

    That's a really great question. There is no way I can tell. With the Gen2 and knowledge, feel and experience, you could pretty easily tell. In the Gen3, I can't. The car is too quiet and too smooth.

    Also, I haven't hooked up a Scangauge, so I can't get reads for clues.

    I think John1701a is working on it as we speak. If you can hold out a couple more weeks . . .

    Well as posted elsewhere, I got my Prius V with AT yesterday. I want to wait until the weekend to give a detailed report but after a full day here's my initial impressions:

    • The JBL system in the 2010 is MUCH improved over the 2nd Gen Prius. The bass resopnse is much better and hits harder. Also, having the front 'squawkers' moved up onto the outward corners of the dash make a big difference.
    • At first I did notice a difference in throttle response from the 2nd Gen. When taking off from a light it seemed I needed to give it more gas to move as quickly as in my 2006. But I've gotten used to it and honestly my gas mileage is not worse than in my GenII so even if I am pushing it a bit more it's not consuming more fuel.
    • PWR mode as everyone has mentioned is impressive. Very good response. I don't want to use it too often or I may leave it in it!
    • ECO mode for me is best when used in stop and go traffic, such as on the BQE around here or on my normal commute home since a few miles are just lights and stop and go and more lights, stop signs etc. Leaving it in eco all the time is just too sluggish unless used in the above circumstances, for me at least.
    • The car also feels much more solid than my 2006 was. The fit and finish are superb, I really have to say I am impressed. The rear seat arm rest doesn't fit flush into the seat on mine, it sticks out a bit, but its no biggie. I mean no reason to lose the car for a day to fix it. Other than that the car is just beautiful.
    • Road noise has been dramatically reduced as well. So has engine 'whine' under hard acceleration. I have not floored it yet, waiting for 600 miles, but it is smoother and quieter than what I am used to.
    • Also, the transition of the engine starting and stopping is almost un-noticable.
    There is more but I'll add to the list come the weekend.

    Thank You Toyota, the Prius Team, Priuschat and Erica for making this car purchase such a special and memorable one. I truly appreciate it! :)

    I passed 600 miles, and finally did a floor it test. I was kinda disappointed, but probably because it was a 50-65mph test. What was missing was the surge of power as the engine spooled up. The Gen II used to be a bit more noticeable here. Power mode off the line in situations that demand it is more than adequate though.

    Intake noise was a bit more prevalent, but I'd expect that due to larger displacement all other things considered.

    I may try the passing scenario again in a different setting to verify the performance difference.

    Rick, i tried the same thing except mine was from 40 to 60 and like the Gen 2, i "felt" more power when SOC was high. but then again, different locations for these "tests" so only have my impressions to judge only.

    i will say in my SPM of which i have had several opportunities to punch it around something, the acceleration is very dramatic.

    I would hope that if/when the accelerator is floored, at any speed and no matter what mode the vehicle may be in, the entire drivetrain goes full-out. ie - emergency situations, passing, Insight challenges at stoplights :D

    I think it was posted here recently that the published 0-60mph times were in Normal mode, and if in Power mode would be quicker - is that right?

    My "punch" tests were in both ECO and PWR - no difference. Once the pedal goes beyond 50% of it's range of motion, the response is identical in all three settings.

    yep...eco mode can be looked at as kinda like the setting for your mouse. it simply smooths out the response of the system in relation to the movement of your foot.

    iow, in power mode, movement of an inch may provide 25% of available power. in eco, only 10%. flooring it in any mode will still provide 100%.

    basically what it does is helps heavy coffee drinkers from getting bad gas mileage...sort of...

    I'm saying Eco, Normal, and PWR all have the same 100% position response. EV is excluded in this comparison.

    Pick up my 2010 Blue V with Nav, yesterday and after a long day and about 86 plus miles here are my initial thoughts:

    Very nice & tight ride (current car Infiniti M35X).
    Excelleration as expected, may drive in Power mode all the time :)
    Mileage about 47.5 MPG, so far.
    Love the Blue color and how it matches the blue emblem

    Have one technical issue so far: somehow there was already a phone paired and can't delete it...does someone else have this problem, on second note, all my contacts on my Iphone 3G is in outlook...anyone know how to trasfer that?

    Will post pictures and more updates later.

    I don't know why you can't delete the other phone. Try to do it with your current iPhone turned off and see what happens.

    In terms of your contacts on the iPhone: When you go to pair the iPhone with your Prius, you'll see a message asking if you'd like the car to download or sync your contacts. Just press "Yes" on the screen, and you'll wait seconds to minutes (depending on the number of contacts -- up to 1,000 allowed, at least). It is a very easy process. (My iPhone syncs contacts with my notebook, and my contacts are in Outlook.)

    Can someone comment on the uphill and downhill performance of the 2010 at highway speeds, please.

    I'm hoping the 2010 does much less of the following stuff my 2009 does -

    engine spins pretty high and lets me know it's working pretty hard going up steep climbs at highway speed. Also, there not a lot of pickup, uphill, unless I was to really stuff the throttle which would just make MPG's go farther down.

    On downhills, the 2009 starts to 'runaway' (accelerate, a lot, foot off gas of course) since it is so aerodynamic - this is a bit annoying. Not an option to use 'B' mode since I'm on short stretches of downhill, followed by uphill again. So, must brake.

    that uphill downhill stuff is not going to change much. when i know i am going to hit a steep hill, i slow down making sure i hit the crest going 5-10 mph under the speed limit (less if traffic allows it...once i hit the top of the hill on 512 going into Puyallup doing 35 mph on 60 mph freeway. it was 4 am and the road was empty. but even coasting, still hit the bottom of the hill at 65 mph and had to brake to make a sharp curve at the bottom)

    as far as going up, i have done the above mentioned hill with no issues. in the 2010, the engine is supposed to be stronger (have not tested it) and it definitely idles smoother and runs quieter so its all really a perception thing.
