Does anyone prefer the 2G Prius to the 2010?

I prefer the 2G all around besides the LED headlights on the 3G. For some reason the 3G just doesn't appeal to me. It's all a matter of opinion though

I prefer the 2010 but if sheer economics were the driving factor then a used GenII would be the best bet. If you plan on buying new I would just find a great deal on a 2010 in the next few months.

Because of your weather conditions you will suffer a bit in the winter due to so much moisture on the road which may make getting 50mpg more difficult in the GenII than the GenIII.

My sister lives in Marysville and I used to live there, partially on the reservation, before the casino BLEW UP and changed everything.

 

I really was hesitant to give up my Gen2 ('07). My dealer told me I'd forget about it within a day once I'd had a chance to really drive the 2010. True? Not really.

I still miss the '07. I loved that car. It was SO good. I liked the color, too. I don't think I ever was so close to a car (since the '68 Camaro RS).

BUT . . . The 2010 just blows the doors off the Gen2. There is no comparison when it comes to driveability. The 2010 has much better presence on the highway, and I feel I have so much more control over the car. (I went from a non-touring '07 to the 2010 Prius V w/AT and the 17" wheels and 215/45 R17 tires may have something to do with this.)

The 2010 is quieter, the driver's seat is more comfortable, the sound system is better, the HSD is incredibly seamless and more powerful; and there are many other improvments that set this car will above the second generation.

You cannot go wrong with the Gen2 car, though. I think its MFD screen probably provides better immediate feedback to the driver, and the 2010 is a little soft in this department.

 

I bought my Prius a little over a year ago after debating whether or not to wait for the new generation model knowing that it would probably be a big improvement. There were rumors that 3G would be a 100mpg car at the time (!)

In hindsight, I'm glad I didn't wait. I've saved over $2K in gas during the last year. Even though I think that the 3G is definitely better in almost every way, my 2G is good enough for me.

 

As I've said in the dozen other threads about this, I think think Prius 3.0 sounds wonderful; just not wonderful enough for me to give up my perfectly good 2006 with less than 30,000 miles on it.

 

There is a lot to love about the 2010. In light of the prices we paid, though, I prefer our tried-and-true 2009s.

Some percieved (if not actual) benefits of the 2009s we have are: they have proven and perfected technology (i.e., we're not "beta testers"); parts and accessories are readily available; I needn't buy a sunroof and solar panel I don't want in order to get other features I do want; and, I prefer the console in the Gen II. Without doubt, these are merely "niggles."

And my perception is skewed by financial issues. I got $1,800 off MSRP on our first 2009 (last fall) and $4,950 off MSRP on a "left over" 2009 package 6 touring last month. You won't see discounts like that on a 2010 any time soon (if ever).

Maybe if discounts were available on comparably-equipped 2010s, and cars were to be had, I'd have gotten one of those - at least as our second Prius. But I have no regrets as it is.

 

Now that I have the stiffening plate and strut tower brace, the handling/feel of the '08 is so much improved that I doubt it would be a big factor compared to the 2010.

 

I'm not certain why you say your perception is "skewed" by financial issues -- almost as though you are wrong in that perception. You are absolutely correct.

Yes, I bought a 2010, and I think it is a great car. I think it is significantly better than my '07, but you and the other recent posters are correct that you have not only the tried and true Gen2, but you also have perfectly good (GREAT) cars. I would not have made the move but for the generous offer from Toyota through the Prius Priority Program. Even so, I can't say that it makes pure financial sense!

 

I loeve my '06 and, since I'm not in a financial position to trade it in right now I may be justifying not being able to have the '10. OTOH, my wife wants the solar sunroof BAD and is talking about trading her Impala off for one (she only drives 1 mile to work, so the savings for her won't be as much as for my 50 mile one way commute). I support her idea, as it is more ecologically sound (if not financially sound )

We made the choice to go with the '09 for financial and personal reasons, but the more I hear about the 2010, the more I want one. If we're still in love with the Prius in a few years, when our 2002 CRV is ready to be put out to pasture, we'll certainly look at the Gen3.

This was an initiative by Toyota to get the 2010 Prius into the hands of Prius enthusiasts as early as possible. Toyota offered an incentive to a small group of people to purchase the car before anyone else. Time will tell the value of the incentive, of course, but for the enthusiast who really wanted the car, it was quite an offer.

The program has come and gone, and it was not widely touted. The purpose already has been accomplished, I believe.

 

I have a 2002. No packages. You ordered those items you wanted annd thats all you got. The OWNERS Manual is 245 pages.
The car has 133000+ miles and has an actual overall 48.7 mpg. Replaced right rear wheel bearing at 106000. Replace front brakes at 128000. The 2002 is a compact 4 door sedan that is a positive joy ro parallel park.

My wife has a 2009, Package 5. The Owners Manual is 508 pages. In a thousand years she will never read or understand them. The car has about 6000 Miles, no problems - except. Last thursday we had a very heavy hailstorm There are about 100 poc marks on the roof, hood, and lift gate. Waiting to hear from an Insurance Adjuster now.

I agree the 2009 is more pleasant to drive on an Interstate. I think it has too many features that we will never use.
