I'd take it right back to him and tell him to take it off! Any damage you could potentially do to the paint isn't going to be free to fix...you bought a Toyota Prius not a Toyota (insert dealership name) Prius.

And, if he balks at doing it for free tell him you want to put YOUR NAME on his car since he sold one to you and you pay his salary!

Well I bought it used from a dealer a couple of months ago, and I just noticed it now (yeah not too bright). There's got to be a way to remove it myself...

I warm them up good with a heat gun or hair dryer and then they come right off.

Sparky9292, Sparky 9292! This is Earth calling!

    Earth calling Sparky 9292!

Sorry, couldn't resist the urge, given your avatar. :D

There are two kinds of dealer "decals." One is a metalized, plastic
badge. It can be removed using normal "debadging" techniques. Use
the search function to find debadging threads.

Then there is the old fashioned decalcomania, commonly called a
"decal." There are decal specific formulations for removing them
without damage to the underlying finish/paint. I don't have any
    experience with any of them.

FWIW here's a Google search result for "decal remover:"

    [ame=http://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=decal+remover&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8]decal remover - Google Search[/ame]

    Hope this helps.

    Good Luck.

If it's painted on, careful use of a rubber wheel such as this: Autobody Eraser Wheel with Arbor. If it's a stick-on decal like AutoNation uses, you can use fishing line like a potter's cut-off tool.

Some guys on ClubLexus reported success with Easy-Off on certain types - they report this method works well on pinstripes.

What I have used with total success in the past for removing stickers and mouldings is heat and RP7. Apply heat with a hair dryer, heat guns are too easy to scar the paint with. Spray a small amount of RP7 or similar along the top of the sticker. Pick at the top of the sticker with your finger nail, keeping the sticker warm and applying more RP7. Put a wad of paper towel under to catch runoff. Once the sticker starts coming off gently peel it off with steady pressure pulling at 90 degrees from the panel and keeping a small pool of RP7 along the top edge of the sticker where it is still in contact with the paint.

Clean off any remaining adhesive with RP7 and a soft cloth. Then wash the car with your favourite car wash products and wax the area where the RP7 has contacted the paint. Might be the right time to wax the whole car.

RP7 will not harm your paint but will soften the adhesive especially if used on a warm sticker. I have done this without added heat by parking the car in the sun with the sun on the area I need to remove the sticker from.

I refer to RP7 but any similar product will perform as well, even the cheap stuff from the $2 shop. Eucalyptus oil works a treat!

Don't pull hard and be patient, you will succeed.

If it's the kind like the toyota decal on the hood, use a heat gun/hair dryer and 6 pound test fishing line and it'll come right off. If it's a stick on decal use a heat gun/hair dryer and goo gone. Works like a charm :)

Don't forget to polish the affected area with a good rubbing/polishing compound and wax it if you use either method. 3M compound works decently but you will need to "chase" it with fine polishing compound/glaze.

Why polish the area of the removed decal? Cleaning it should be sufficient.

Doesn't matter if the car was used, and if it took a year before you noticed, I would still go back to the dealer and insist they remove it for free.

Post a picture on the decal, it will be very helpful. Use a hair dryer instead of a heat gun. I saw and heard alot of paint damage of using a heat gun on removing decals.

Well I went out to my Prius in late afternoon (it's 96 degrees here) and simply shoved a credit card into one side of the decal and it peeled right off.

I'll buff off the residue later, but it was SUPER easy to remove.
