just wondering if anyone has the 'VIP RS3200 Plus security system' installed on their 2010 prius.

likes/dislikes? dealer is trying to force me to add it to my package II for $359.

any opinions would be much appreciated!

    thanks!

Honestly, what can you expect as an impression of an alarm system? You lock the car--it arms. Unlock--it disarms.

Until/unless somebody breaks into your car, not much more to say.

This is the first car I've owned for a long time that didn't come with an alarm system standard (it does have an engine immobilizer) so I weighed the cost/benefits and I decided to pass. If somebody is serious about stealing the car, they'll have to tow it and it won't be some amateur, so an alarm system probably won't do much good (how many times have you heard an alarm go off and actually do something about it? ;)). I decided it wasn't worth it.

On the 2010 Prius V w/ATP, the VIP RS3200 Plus security system was a port install. I will have it activate tomorrow, Tuesday morning at the dealership. The port of entry was Long Beach, CA.

My car also came in through Long Beach, Prius IV w/Nav, and my dealer said it was a port add on. I've never had an alarm system on a car (on my HD motorcycle - yes) and have always hated them because every alarm I have ever heard was a false alarm (particularly those with a very sensitive system that my overly loud motorcycle sets off).

But I paid the price and when my car finally gets delivered from Long Beach it will have the alarm. Maybe I just won't activate it.

I had it added to mine @ port as well. I'm not brave enough to whack the glass hard enough to set off the glass break sensor, but my daughter's "clapping" inside when armed wasn't enough to trigger it. Opening the door while locked does though (same as 2004 which had std security). Hood is switched too, but there's probably not much under there to steal except perhaps headlights (if they were LED).

Is the 2010 different than the Gen 2 with regard to the RS3200? On the Gen 2 all vehicles came equipped with everything except the glass breakage sensor. The low end models had the alarm disabled, while higher versions had the standard alarm enabled. Adding the RS3200 option consisted of adding the glass breakage sensor, plus enabling the rest of the alarm if it wasn't already on. Specifically, the hood switch and alarm horn were standard equipment, even if they were not enabled.

So does the 2010 models come with the hood switch & horn, or are they part of the RS3200 option package?

Hood switch is added w/ RS3200 (at least per instructions, they kinda go either way - add if not already present). I believe this time around the horns are integrated (or at least sound identical). I didn't see any reference to additional horns in the install instructions. I say about time - having two sets was just silly.

Adding a hood pin switch, if not present (already prewired). Adding glass break sensor ECU and microphone like before. Adding a couple of wire harness's. Making sure a short pin is installed. Turn on with tech scanner.

Just like before essentially. Probably would work if the short pin was installed and turned on, just reduced functionality.

my neighbor has it on his new 2010 prius and the other day we where talking and he leaned up against it and the alarm beeped so he deiced to find out what would make it go off but not harm his car if you break glass near it it will go off and if you continuously pull on the door handels and if you shake the prius it will sound.

I couldn't whack the glass hard enough to set it off either, but I found that tapping the glass from inside the car sets it off easily.
