I tested the EV mode in a flat Wal Mart parking lot this evening. When the speed touched 10 mph I got a dashboard notice, "EV has been turned off due to excessive speed". Doesn't really matter to me, but I thought I'd pass it along...

    You mean EV-Mode?

10mph? That can't be right... The current one (modded) does 55km/h in EV mode before cancelling.

I think the new Prius is supposed to cut out at 25mph isn't it? Any chance you were accelerating too quickly? There are other 'cut out' triggers besides the speed of travel.

EV mode shutting off at 10 mph doesn't seem right to me at all. That would be virtually useless.

I don't see how it's good to force the car into EV mode. Isn't it supposed to know when EV is best, then it does it?

That said, I really like it when mine is doing 41 mph all electric, on level ground.

I was doing at least 17mph in LA toward the end of my test loop and didn't have EV shut down.

I was thinking EVOO mode. Didn't think the Prius came with a diesel. Just be careful you don't get any extra virgin olive oil on your new interior.:D

I picked up my new 2010 yesterday. Same as yours when in EV mode it will kick out at 10 mph saying excessive speed. Yuk....

i had mine cut out at 10 mph and the message on the screen said it was excessive speed. but that was from a standing start so i believe acceleration had something to do with it, because i can also enable EV while moving and it appears to cut out at 25 mph...definitely waaay more sensitive than my SPM. its also a bummer that i am, up to now, unable to start up in EV mode.

I drove when on Thursday. I had EV mode work up until 25 mph. 3 times. Had a customer come in to drive one (he is a G2 owner) and he had the same experience.. 26 MPH and Excessive speed came on.

Either battery is too low or you are hitting the gas too hard. Just guesses, but that is what I experienced. I'll have to have more data to figure this one out.

im sure its hitting gas too hard, i had 6 bars so definitely not battery. i am used to the modded SPM which has much greater tolerance due to installed EV switch

Sorry, that is correct. I was using EV mode and only tried it once maybe I was doing something wrong because that was the message at 10 mph.

Hmm.. try holding it at a constant acceleration rate and accelerate really slowly. See if that occurs.

Otherwise, there might be another additional parameter built into the new EV Drive Mode to stop people from accelerating from a stop in EV Drive Mode.

just got back from picking up misc BBQ items for party later and i tried several times to invoke EV mode while coasting at 20-22 mph, no go.

so we see, and dont mention SOC, i know better

Weird.. so it is programmed differently from our Gen 2s??

Can you duplicate TempusFugit's 10mph limit?

I think you hit the nail on the head. I was in a parking lot, driving between cars, parked on both sides, going about 5 mph. When the lot opened up I started to press the pedal a little harder to see if I could get going faster. It was then, when I hit 10 mph that I got the message. EV will be great for parking lots - not quite so good for drag racing:)
