[IMG]Hello All, my Boss, Earl Stewart of Earl Stewart Toyota North Palm Beach, FL has asked me to do him a little favor. We have an 09 Prius which has had the Hymotion Lithium battery added to it. Mr. Stewart wants to know if this car can go from North Palm Beach to Washington D.C. using less than one tank of fuel (11.2 gallons).

June 1, 2009, I will be pulling out of the dealership on one of the most unique journies I have ever imagined! I will be driving for about 30-40 miles then stopping and finding an avaiable place to plug in and recharge and then continuing the trip! I expect to reach Washington sometime around the 10th or 11th of June. There will be (hopefully) plenty of media coverage and I hope to be able to find lots of available recharge points along the way.

We intend to seal the gas door with tamper proof tape to show that the trip was done on one tank of fuel only. When you see it coming give a wave!! I will be sending updates on the web and will be adding a MySpace page and Twitter as well in the coming days. We will also have a GPS tracking system added that will show where the car is at any time. Feel free to go to www.earlstewarttoyota.com to get more information.

Good luck from here too. If a recharge point about 100 miles south of DC helps you, I'm about 10 miles off I-95.

Hey Bear - you ought to start a caravan! Seriously, I'm driving up the coast this summer (but I'll be stopping for gas a couple of times :)) You're leaving 6/1 - 'round what time?

Sorry I will miss you Galaxee!!

Sharkdaddy, I hope to hit the road by noon, but may run a little later in order to allow for media and the ceremonial sealing of the fuel door. I will of course be uploading lots of reports and photos along the way... After all, I will have about 5 hours per recharge stop to kill!!!

You might consider posting on CleanMPG too. I bet the folks there would be quite interested in this. Wayne (aka Xcel, the forum owner) has done several marathon runs, including Chicago to New York in a stock Prius on one tank (flying solo) and most recently getting 1446 miles on one tank in a stock Fusion hybrid with multiple drivers making loops on the George Washington Parkway in the DC area. Of course, he might say that Florida to DC on one tank with a PHEV is child's play. ;)

Will you need my outside AC outlet on 6/9? If so, FYI it's about 100' from the parking lot. I have a 16 AWG extension cord sufficient for the block heater, but I don't know if that will meet your power needs.

As an aside, how many mpg's did they end up getting in the Fusion on that 1446 mile trip? I checked out that linked thread, but didn't see it.

Hmm, didn't realize that didn't have the final result. It was 81.5 MPG. Here's another thread with more.

It might have been on there as there were 4 pages and I just skimmed them without reading them looking for "mpg". Thanks.....81.5 mpg. That's pretty impressive.

If you need it, a recharging/refreshment stop should be available for the 10 June Fredericksburg, VA area. I live in King George, VA. (About 10 miles from Fredericksburg.)

PM if you may be interested.

D-Day gets closer! Monday ar Noon I will be pulling out of the dalership and heading north. My Boss, Earl Stewart and his publicist, Margie Yansura, have arranged for several local county and city commissioners and possibly a mayor or two for the great send off!

Upon arrival in D.C. I will be greeted by not only Earl Stewart, but possibly by Tom Rooney and /or other members of Congress! I will of course be posting any pics I get...

Here is a link for the MySpace page upon which I will be posting a blog and other pics Rick (Rick Kearney) | MySpace.com
