I am getting ready to purchase my first Prius, and like many, I am agonizing over the '09 + incentives vs. the 2010 models. I have obtained the dealer invoice pricing with all of the dealer holdback data, etc., but the real question is, How much over dealer invoice are the dealers getting on each car? Can you hold them to $300 over dealer invoice, or will the popularity of the 2010's be so great that people will have to pay something closer to MSRP? Toyota has reported brisk pre-sales. That could be true, or they could be trying to generate interest in their cars after slumping sales and record losses. Your insight and wisdom is appreciated... FWIW... I was told the 2010 Prius will be at a local dealer (Boston, MA area) in 2-3 weeks... Bryan (the wannabe new Prius owner)
i am at $500 below MSRP - and i sense that people are paying close to MSRP. I don't think you can get close to invoice until the initial demand has been satisfied and supply builds up. the economic choice is to get a great deal on an 09 vs the sexy full price 2010, and normally that is how i am, but i just WANT the 2010 as a replacement for my 2002 1st gen
Congrats Fred. Hopefully you ordered yours at Koon's. For others that have questions regarding pricing. Just an FYI our first 2 shipments of Prius are sold out. Demand and pre order is brisk and people want the car. On a contrasting note with the 2009. We went into last weekend with over 20 2009 Prius, we now have 6 and will more than likely be sold out of those by weekends end. If you are planning on taking advantage of 2009 incentives, I would do it sooner rather than later so you aren't having to settle too much for what is left over.
I agree competely. 2 weeks ago, we were sitting on 34 09's. I currently have 13 left. The 0% has helped tremendously.
Scoop - I sent you a PM but the system shows i have none in my sent folder - did you get it? I am with koons - in the PM i give you my name and the name of the salesman at Koons i gave the deposit to. I think I am 21st or 22nd in line. I am IV solar nav in colors red blue black or blizzrd pearl - i updated my preference by email the other day to add blizzard pearl and i am seeking confirmation of the change. Also - it would be great if i was on the list for one of those first two shipments. Can u tell me if i am? Thanks i appreciate any info.
I'd appreciate any thoughts about this email that I received from the local internet salesperson in response to my inquiries about a 2009: Hi Dorothy, Sorry it took so long to get back to you, i've been scrambling around here lately. I appreciate your offer, however, there is not a new prius anywhere that you can buy for that price. Unfortunately, most of the premises you used or the information that you are using is completely incorrect. The lowest price Prius I have on the lot MSRP is $23622 and I would be happy to sell it to you at the incredibly low price of only $21607 after rebate + TTL. That price is only $200 over invoice. We continue to sell 09's daily and 2010's are still at least a month out. If you would like to take advantage of this deal ..please contact me at your earliest convenience.
I bought my '10 on Saturday, May 16th. I was not on any official waiting list, nor had I given a deposit. I'd spoken to a salesman one day prior, and he knew I was looking for Blizzard Pearl. He called me the next day when the first one rolled on to his lot, and he sold it to me for MSRP. Package III with Nav and all weather mats (I don't have the mats in the car yet) plus all DMV fees was a few pennies over $26k. When we'd spoken on Friday morning, he was very candid. He told me he didn't expect any problems with meeting the demand for the '10 Prius and would not charge over MSRP. He didn't mention any sort of incentives, but he did imply that barring a big increase in gas prices, he expected to have plenty of inventory once the initial excitement wore off. Perhaps I could have negotiated a better deal on Saturday, but I doubt it. There were several other buyers there who wanted the same car.
Hi - we are in the GST distribution region. We still can't use the build a toyota website using a Texas zipcode and have it pull up anything other than a 2009. No Houston area dealers have any 2010s on the lot yet, or even in their computers, as far as I can tell, although they have started showing info on it on their websites. That said, I've been told my priorty order 2010 is arriving soon, so maybe there is hope for us Texans after all. However, your dealer may not be that far off the mark for Lubbock. I personally think the 2010 is a much improved car and worth a little extra, but if you want new and you want cheap, the 2009 deal you've been offered doesn't sound too bad. After the initial rush and inventory buildup , better deals may become available on the 2010 too.
Mellisa, First - thanks for the great interior pics! Nice of you to take the time. I read on PC that the bisque interior, as you have, has light gray pillars and headliner. From your pics, that looks to be the case - does it look odd? Also - the center stack that houses the shift lever. Does it seem wide while driving? Does your leg rub on it, or not allow you to shift it to the right a bit? You don't have leather - how does the steering wheel feel in the hand? I must say, from every picture I've seen of the Prius interior - Toyota has done a tremendous job with that design. What a difference from the Insight!!! Good luck with your new ride! Lucky you!
Dean, forgive me, but what are the pillars and headliner? I'm kind of car-clueless. If you describe where they are, I'll try to take pictures. I haven't noticed anything that looks oddly colored in the car... yet. As for the center console, my leg doesn't hit it. My husband thinks it's a little odd-looking, but I love how it makes the front seat feel like a cockpit. Before we switched to Toyotas this spring (my husband bought a Camry for his commute) we both drove gas-guzzling Mercedes-- an '02 E320 for my husband, and an '06 ML350 for me. They handled very nicely, but we grew to hate the feeling of excess. The biggest shock for me, in a mere four days of Prius ownership, is not the fuel economy: it's how much I love to drive this little car! The handling is fantastic, the acceleration (in power mode, when I need it) is unreal, and I've never been more engaged by the driving experience than I am thanks to this car's various energy monitors. I still have the ML in the garage, but I doubt it will make it back out to the streets again before the lease is up in June.
[FONT=#ce_temp_font#]Just got this from the delear. Could someone take a look at this and tell me if this is a 2009 Package 4? Thanks for the help! My best guess: Model 1220 is the bottom model, no package, MSRP $22,000. The next $775 is likely the delivery fee in your area, slightly higher than the rest of the country ($720 or 750, depending on when the sticker was printed). The $847 is for dealer selected options, which are not equivalent to any package number. This is NOT a package #4. Does anyone else read this differently? -- Dean
M, The pillars are the things holding the roof up (next to the windshield, between the doors, and the back window) The headliner is the clothlike liner above your head (the underneath of the roof). If there is a color difference as it looks in your pics, you should see the difference where the pillars meet the upper door panels. Just seems odd that bisque would not have beige, but may be a cost-savings thing. And as for the console width - sometimes I like to stretch my knee to the right while driving. Looks as if the console may restrict that - another Oh Well..... So glad you're enjoying tooling around in your new baby. Keep us updated and very jealous!!! Dean
Chilibean, that is NOT a package #4 2009. Fuzzy is right. It is a base model prius with dealer fluff added. That car won't even have cruise control. Pass.
The port or dealer addons are a ripoff (sealants, etc.), except for the mats, which are maybe $200 MSRP. Someone else will have to comment on the base package.
Fabulous! Many, many thanks! You're a life saver Jabber and Fuzzy. I'm pretty far out of my element here. I've never bought a new car before, know nothing about Prius' or Prii as you call them and have little financial room to manuever in. I think I'll just take my chances, wait for a '10 and perhaps see what happens with cash for clunkers. Again, my sincere thanks!
The pillars and the headliner, now that I know what they are, look pale beige to me. The color definitely transitions, just as you described, but I don't think it's gray. It's so completely neutral that I'm not 100% sure either way. Perhaps close-ups will help: Sorry, I know the sunlight doesn't make it easy to see.
This looks like a concern to me as well. I like to let my legs stretch to the left and right on long drives. But no way to tell from the pics. i hope it's wide enough. The 2009 was, but it had no real center console.
Yes this is my reading too. The key points are the model # which is NOT a 1224 and the fact that the audio is NOT a JBL system with Bluetooth.
