While I have never worn a skirt (short or otherwise), I would agree that sometimes, when it is hot and sticky out, your exposed skin can stick to the leather. That does suck, but me the 'luxury' of leather makes it all worthwhile. I would imagine that this occurs for both real and faux leather, as well as the older vinyl seats of yesteryear (or taxis).

Sorry, but I was a bit "tongue-in-cheek" on that one.

Post-consumer recycling is the real deal, in my book. I think the use of "post-industrial" with recycling is not always as "green" as it seems. Truly, I don't believe people share the same definition when it comes to things other than post-consumer recycling.

Don't get me wrong: I'm all for waste reduction, and if people want to call something post-industrial waste recycling when it has been sent somewhere other than the landfill for years, that's fine with me. I'd just rather find ways to stop throwing out so much stuff and find real uses for it.

Still -- I appreciate the response!

You sound a bit . . . young. I just can't put leather and vinyl in the same performance category when it comes to attacks on the skin. Sure, leather may get a bit sticky at times. Vinyl, as in 1960s vinyl seats, was different. You needed bear grease and a spatula for separation. You also needed an emergency room visit to deal with the burns.

I will NEVER forget driving from Illinois to Iowa in mid-August, through the middle of the day, in our '68 Camaro. Black vinyl seats. No A/C. Black vinyl top. No A/C. Small windows. No good ventilation. No A/C. Black vinyl seats.

LOL... Yes, I am 'young', at 37... Although having 3 daughters, the oldest a teenager, makes me feel much older. (Especially when the teen boys come-a-prowlin) I also recalll long road trips in my parents Caprice Classic from Chicago to Southwest, and there were literally some burns on my legs some days...

Still, I would prefer a freshly dead seat (leather) to a seat made from organisms that died millions of years ago (Crude Oil - Nylon fabrics... etc) That is just a pathetic description, but the bottom line is that I still prefer leather to fabric.

Yes, it would. Their goal is to sell cars and the absence of leather would put a number of customers off. As it is, they're only offering it on Prius IV and V in the US, where it's mandatory (can't get these models with cloth seats)

In the UK they haven't announced the plan for the new car yet. Currently, they offer leather seats as an extra-cost (£1,325) option on all three 'grades', T3 T4 and T Spirit. Hopefully this will be the same on the new car - I can't stand leather seats.

its all a question of taste and having been in (have never owned leather) car with leather several times, it doesnt work for me. although i live in a very temperate climate with average high temps in summer topping out at 80º in July, i wear shorts from the May 1 to around Oct 1 ALL the time unless at work.

if you sweat at all and i do, leather sticks. microfiber does not. now granted, putting a towel done in either situation can work, but i dont and i had no issues keeping the car clean with exceptions of spills, all of which cleaned up easily even with some being set it stains.

i recently cleaned my Pri out (Mother's Day thing) and it was a mess. but will relatively little effort, it came out pretty easily. there was hot chocolate spills, ketchup, hot sauce, hard candy of all sorts suck to the seats (my 2 year old is to blame for this, but then again, mother should be policing the area AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK!!... i found halloween and Christmas candy!)

i used a microfiber cloth, armor all and water. had spot cleaner that i used on two spots, but most if it was just plain water. i was very impressed
