Could someone please tell me. how many degrees do you have to turn your steering wheel to make 90 degrees turn? There is something very odd in the way my car responds when I try to turn right or left at the intersection, but I may be wrong... Thank you.
You will have to tell us a lot more if you want a definitive answer. The number of degrees a steering wheel is turned will dictate the turning radius of the car not the number of degrees the car will turn. Do you want to know the number of turns from lock to lock of the steering wheel? Do you want to know the number of degrees the road wheel turns when going from straight ahead to full lock? Is there any free play in your steering wheel? Is the steering wheel difficult to turn, indicating the power steering is not working?
My car will turn right with just the slightest turn of the wheel. Granted, it will take a very long time to do so.
Without knowing the radius of the turn it'll be difficult to say. I can't say I have to apply much more lock than in my previous car (2001 [Euro] Ford Focus) even though the Prius has a longer wheelbase. If you were coming from a sports car, they often do have faster steering, i.e. with fewer turns required to reach lock.
I meant regular right or left turn at the intersection. How big the radious can be there? 5-7 yards? Not more. Car will not start to turn unless I turn the steering wheel 270 degrees. Sometimes much more. I had the same problem with my old Jeep. But it had 190k on it. Prius has only 3k. So maybe it is normal for this type of car... Thank you very much for your answer!
This may be one of the oddest questions we've had. The turning ration is fixed. You turn the wheel..far enough. What is a "regular" right or left turn? Are you asking if there's something wrong with your car? Are you suggesting that your jeep's turning radius somehow changed as it got older?? I'm so confused.
Jeep had to have steering box replaced. I guess as long as the Prius turns at all, in at least one direction, everythink is ok. I will not worry about it anymore. Thank you.
When driving in a straight line does the car respond to small (20 degree) turn of the steering wheel? If it does, does it respond much the same as other cars you have driven?
Ah, the pleasures of a salvaged Prius :_> The minimum turning radius is about 6 yards: Prius specifications The front wheels should start turning as soon as you turn the steering wheel. If the front wheels do not turn at all until you turn the steering wheel 270 degrees then the steering gear is broken.
