The applique has saved my bumper a few times and is well worth it. I'm having that put on my 2010 as well.

    Awesome thread!

I'm in So California and want a fully loaded Winter gray, Misty Gray!

My dealership sent me an email saying a 1227 in Blizzard was on it's way. But I'm gonna pass on that one. I don't think they have a wait list but I'm pretty sure I'm number one on it!

Julie, congrats on scoring the new Prius! I think you've found a very fair deal and I'm very happy for you. I hope it all works out as planned. Have a nice, safe drive back and please keep us posted.

Yesterday, Earnhardt Toyota (Arizona) offered to sell PIII (silver over Misty Grey) but adding $2454 on top of MSRP. They said this includes alarm, window tinting, autobutler (?), and valentine theft guard (?), and some other useless stuff. I told him that I wasn't going to pay for all those extras. I'm so disgusted with the price gouging that's happening here in the Phoenix valley that I'm about to give up!

    hi dbacksfan
Thx for the nice words. Look outside your area, fly one way then drive back. Thats what I am doing. Man, the money you save from add ons will give you a good road trip instead. I am looking forward to it, hope it pans out next weekend.

    Julie,

For your drive back, maybe you should check what the Owner's Manual says for the break-in period.

I don't know if things have changed, but my 2007 Owner's Manual says:

    "Break-in-period

Drive gently and avoid high speeds. [Comment: What does that mean? I guess it means the below specific "don'ts"]

Your vehicle does not need an elaborate break-in. But following a few simple tips for the first 1000 km (600 miles) can add to the future economy and long life of your vehicle:

--Avoid full-throttle acceleration when starting and driving.

    --Avoid racing the hybrid engine.

--Try to avoid hard stops during the first 300 km (200 miles)."

Just wait. Yes, you won't be the first to have one but in a month or two below MSRP will be possible if not easy.

5-9-09 My local Las Vegas Fletcher Jones just sent me Toyota's price quote for model 2: $22,000 +Delivery, Processing and Handling fee DPH $750. That's how they got the price to look so good. They left it off on Toyota's price site. Then my dealer slammed the usual closing costs but: $495 + $38 title fee. :mad:I then decided to keep looking, especially since Canada has models I want to research, their different configuration. No prices available yet.

My deaCler then tacked on $495 closing fee +$38 :welcome:tTCTA

Well it must be a glitch on the Toyota website because when I entered my zip code 03301 The Toyota website showed a Prius II and the delivery fee of $750. The doc fees at the place I bought mine at were only $226 which is extremely low.
The Honda dealer we bought from had $400 doc fees, too high!

Thanks Tom, now I am not going to be able to race the Honda Insight I pass on the freeway :) Kidding. I will be careful.

I need to see first if the dealer is tacking on another fee for having the driver follow me to Reno or if it is included. Still not a done deal but moving forward. I am just paranoid that there will be other charges he is not telling me. I guess I ask for a purchase order in detail with a final cost right before I fly down?

There is a dealership near my house, In South Florida , that will sell their stock of 2010 Prius at MSRP with no dealer fee's. They receive the most allotment in the US. I would be happy to give out any of the information to anyone who would like it.

A few years back, I bought a car over the phone, flew to LA (from SFO), and drove back.

Do be sure to get--in writing--exactly what you'll pay for the car. Don't settle for something like "MSRP + fees" since there's a lot of wiggle room in fees. Ask them to fax you (or scan & email you a PDF) a document on the dealership's letterhead (I wouldn't accept just an email from the sales rep) with all the numbers, since once you fly there, you've lost your leverage.

Regarding driving back with a brand new car (my drive was ~400 miles)--generally speaking, you need to vary speed, not exceed a certain speed, and not accelerate/decelerate too hard (the owners manual will have specifics), and not go for long stretches without stopping (you need to stop every few hours and let the car cool down). So plan on the trip taking 1.5X as long as normal.

Also--why is a car following you to Reno? What about sales tax? I know Oregon doesn't have any, but CA does, so have you worked out how that's going to work, and what you need to do to have a legally registered (and insured) car to drive home? I'm sure you've thought of all of this but thought I'd put them out there just in case.

In theory by having them drive the car (or you under their employee), the car is being delivered to another state, and the "owner" is "taking delivery" in a state w/o sales tax (or different tax laws). This negates the need to pay CA sales tax.

This may not be quite the case, but either way, it sounds like the transaction is being completed across state lines.

I haven't bought a car in NJ in ages, not has my dad, because it is simpler to buy in NY the state we live but I see cars bought in NJ all the time with a temporary registration in the window. It's for like 14 or 21 days and in that time you have to register in NY. And I dont think you are charged the sales tax in NJ but rather you are when you register it in NY. Now this is how I remember it years and years ago so I dont know if it has changed but that's how it worked. People from Staten Island and Brooklyn routinely buy in NJ around here...

Fantastic advice. The dealer is having a driver follow me to Reno, get it notarized that I am going to Oregon because, yes, we have no slaes tax. The letterhead is a great idea. Just dont want to go down there and find out it costs alot more. I do photography and sell to stock ad agencies so thought it would be fun to take pics on the way up through the scenic road. Otherwise I will wait :(

I was told you have 7 days to get the car back to Oregon and registered. Just want to find out today or tomorrow if there is an "extra" charge for such great service. If it gets too high, I will wait.

As for driving it while being new, I am a photographer besides being a wine sales rep and I sell my photos to stock ad agencies so will take my time and go the back way and photograph.

    Edited...

Never mind, I think you mean extra charge for having them drive w/ you right? I thought you meant extra charge for buying out of state and giving the 7 days to register.
