Understand - and thanks for dumbing it down for me... Certainly there are huge strings attached and a buddy system in place. Bet this will be rampant at the early stage of production, and at least for the next couple months.

Thanks Jeff! For those familiar with Jeff (aka Jabber) he is a true professional in the business. And even though I'm 1,000 miles away, would like to give him my business.

Granted the dealers don't build the car and I did ask to be put on the waiting list over 3 weeks ago. I was told it's not possible.
I just got off the phone with the sales manager and was told I should have put a deposit on the car 2-3 weeks ago. :mmph:
Now I'm told there will only be 5 cars like that in the US and they cannot guarantee me the car I want within 2-3 months and in fact they claim no one will have a 2010 for sale before the middle of June.
I do not see them scrambling to sell me the car I want and in fact they are adding floormats and claim you HAVE to buy them. Also they have a high doc fee $320
So yes, if I can get a 2010 Blue ribbon metallic w/dark grey interior, package 2 and no other options for MSRP which is $22,750 then I will gladly give them a $1,000 deposit. The doc fee is too high tho.
anyway you can email me if you get one although I have no idea where your dealership is located. I'm in New Hampshire.

We needed a car last week, now because of this we are scrambling to find another car.

I thought I read that the price for the base model had dropped to 21-something, but on the Build-Your-Toyota site the lowest price is listed as 22750. Also, fpr Prius III, it says that Navigation Package and Solar Roof Package are available, but then they don't provide solar roof as an option.

$22,000 is the lowest price currently available, Toyota may release a stripped down Prius 1 at a later date that will be $21,000 but no details yet. http://pressroom.toyota.com/pr/tms/toyota/toyota-announces-prices-for-2010-89249.aspx

The $750 is the destination/port/handling charge, what Toyota charges dealers to ship them the car. You are not going to get around that living in the US. It may vary by location, that's why they need your zip code.

Some car companies tack on destination at the end as a 'fee', Toyota rolls it into the MSRP.

Start e-mailing other dealers, you're being screwed around with. Toyota is planning on building and selling 180,000 Prius in the US this year--it's complete BS to claim only 5 of those will be what you want. I can assure you he has no idea how many of what will actually be built. Move on and find someone honest and straight forward. If he's screwing you before the sale believe he'll really screw you once he actually has you on the hook with the car he knows you want b/c by then he'll know you won't walk away.

Question for the experienced veterans here: I am looking at the Accessory Page on toyota.com/prius and I'm wondering about the paint protection film. Is it worth it? This will be my first Prius, but I've had cars that with the swoopy front hood and they do get dinged up. Does this stuff work? How long does it last?
    Thanks!

Others have gone 3rd party w/ the 3M film. I'm strongly considering the film on the 2010 as my 2004's hood is significantly dinged. Fortunately it doesn't rust due the aluminum hood, but it still detracts from the overall appearance.

I always consider it at first Rick but then at trade in time am glad I saved the money... For me and the way I trade it just wouldn't matter since I trade at the dealer and the dealer is not going to giv eme more money if my hood is less dinged from stone chips. I wish it worked differently and those who truly take care of their car get a little more in the end but oh well. Yes, this mainly pertains to trading at the dealer not when it comes to private sales (I know someone will say oh yes it does lol)

Sucks for those in regions that can't get what they want! i would have been very upset too!:(
Luckily, mine worked and I can get it (which SHOULD be right since my dealer said I could but...you never know)

As for steve's message about needing a car NOW, join the club!!:cheer2:
Seriously, maybe we should start a community or seperate thread on here. I have no working A/C in current junker and decided on 2010 prius knowing I would have to wait. But now that getting my Prius III w/sunroof (in 1 of the 4 colors I will take) looks like end of June-July timeframe, I am getting anxious! It will be hitting high 80s, low 90s by then here. I would like to be in a comfortable car for my commute and get into work without my shirt stained .
HOWEVER, I know toyota can only make so many so quickly and remember...this is a 2010...what year is it? 2009? Hmm...seems like we are already getting it early. :D

I'm pretty particular about my cars' appearance, but I've never gone with the protection film. Particularly on darker colored cars (but even on lighter colors), there is a noticeable line at the edge of the film (mid way up across the hood, and fenders, and wherever there's an opening in the front bumper, for example), which becomes more pronounced over time due to wear (the edge gets rough and dirt can get stuck) and wax build up. To me, the trade off isn't worth it.

I'd strongly recommend seeing a car with it in person, and decide for yourself. Go to any Porsche dealer, for example, and I'm sure some of their used cars will have it.

A friend used the analogy of the plastic sofa covers his neighbor had when he was a kid... :D

    :)
I have to agree about the edges getting dirty and nasty looking over time.

But at least you don't have to sit on the plastic on your hood like you would on a plastic covered sofa! :p

Steve, I feel for you. And like efusco said, call around to a dealer that knows what they are talking about.

And the film isn't meant to be permanent. You take it off and the paint under is in show room condition.

One of my neighbors growing up had them, and they made an awful noise when you sat down. And in the summer...brutal...they stuck to your legs...

I know! What was it that made people think plastic was a good idea for seat covers?

I figured something is up. I figure he might be right that in this first shipment therte would be only 5 blue pkg 2's.
But I can't believe that they will be shipping only a handful of cars a month. I really can't wait 2-3 months.

Yes, we should start a club. My wife and I really want a Prius this time. Plus we really want a Blue one. You have a higher chance sine you will take 4 colors. We only have 1 car at present and we now work in different directions and we will now be both working the same shift. The Prius pkg 3 seems like it only has bluetooth and is like $1k more.
We don't really need A/C here except maybe a couple of weeks a year.
I hope you get yours. I am going to put a $1,000 deposit on it tomorrow and hope it comes in on time.

Keep in mind that this was Toyota's very first shipment right after they went into production. It's not like the ship is filled with tons of Prius', there are all models mixed in there. Future shipments will probably have more Prius' on them.
