spent a wonderful day at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last summer.........just listening to all the "founding fathers" and mighty influences on our music. Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, Big Bopper, Elvis, Beach Boys, Rolling Stones, Buddy Holly, the Mowtown sound............there are just too many. All of them have influenced my love of music. My interests cross many genre, but stop at the gate marked "head banger..."

    Interesting cultural phenomenon here --

We're all very "white" (except for Hendrix & a scattering of Black Sabbath listeners)

So for the sake of being PC (not Prius Chat) & diversity, I'm adding:
    Taj Mahal
    Bob Marley

Saw Taj Mahal, Albert King at Filmore West,
Attended San Mateo Hi dance party where Carlos Santana Blues Band was playing. Later attended their debut concert. Only 16 in the audience. Co-debuting was Seat Train featuring Andy Kulberg and Roy Blumenthal of Blues Project.

Too white? Not me - I like Reggae and even some Rap, and realise that the influences on music are far and wide. Just 'because some white dude's signing it, don't make it honky music. :)

Speaking of too white, Yardbirds/Zep/Stones/etc. were heavily influenced by American Blues (black) music...

In terms of groups that got me thinking (if that was the question in the opening post):

    1. The Kinks (Ray Davies' insightful, charming, weary world view)

    2. The Byrds (electrified versions of Dylan and other folk/protest songs)
