Ford Fusion beats Prius MPG!!!

I'm with you on ALL of that. I just don't like the way Ford is blurring the truth with their "sedan" advertisements. IMHO, Ford is attempting to FOOL the public into thinking that the Fusion gets better fuel economy than the Prius.

They should just tout the car. It looks like it may be worth a look on it's own merits.

Ditto/ I was checking the Ford site out today and hope we will all be checking Dodge and GM also before long. I want the American car companies to kick ###. But I love my Prius man, LOL

I borrowed this from the April issue of motor tren. I want to point out that Fusion Claims some MPG, but they don't delivery on the claim. If you look at the specs for the Fusion vs. the Camry hybrid, you'll see that the two are nearly dead even in power out put, curb weight, and power to weight ratio. There is no possible way that the Fusion can beat the Camry Hybrid or Prius in MPG. Ford will get some good press for a month or two but as consumers that shop the two research the fusion, they'll find folks that can't hit the estimated MPG on the window. Looking at the shart above, keep in mind that Toyota's EPA estimated are 33/34 and look at their results above from Motor Trend. Toytoa's in their claimed range. Ford Claims 41/ 36? Look at what they really yield!
Is there a Ford salesman than can give the answer to a consumer asking, "Why does Fusion out perform Toyota Camry Hybrid in MPG? "
Salesman: "ford's better.....what will it take to earn your business today?"

I know we've kicked all of this around before . . .

The advertising really bothers me, too. I don't see the need for it. It seems the Fusion Hybrid is a really great car, though it might be a bit overpriced to compete well with the Prius. If the competition is the Camry Hybrid, then I'd like to see the side-by-side pricing of comparably equipped cars.

Why not just say it is a great car, gets better gas mileage than any other 5-passenger car and is made in America? (Ooops, they can only say one of the three, right?)

I hope Ford does very, very well with this car, but I just don't know who will pay $30K+ for a mid-sized car that isn't loaded with gadgets and doesn't get above 40 MPG, much less 50+. The Prius wins, hands down on all counts except rear seat hip and shoulder room.
