Hmm.. I think that Thule bike rack is designed specially for Europe, where bike racks for small cars are actually mounted on a hitch ball (!), not a receiver.

That's the one wierd thing I noticed about Europe... Bike racks that goes into a hitch receiver are harder to find than hen's teeth. :p

Maybe hitch receivers are illegal for small cars in Europe?

Basically Thule designed a non-standard hitch that cannot be used for towing, and it needs to be mounted on the Prius underbody like we would with the Coastal or Curt hitches before you can click on that bike rack.

I think we are already way ahead of the game with our Curt hitches. :D

Just found another web site with more info. It looks to be an expensive option that is probably not sold in the USA.

The older Thule I bought was such a pain in the butt to install, it looked easy on the box and in theory it should have been..but nope. I used it twice, then went back to cramming my road bike in the back of the prius. I should invest in a rubber mat for the hatch, lots of tire marks everywhere.

I just coudnt' be bothered to install the rack, and I hate leaving the mounts on when not going out somewhere to ride, most of my bike riding is around town, with occasional stints 100+miles up north.

will check on this one, looks as if it's been improved

Does the bike rack have to go in the car when not in use? It doesn't lock to the car? What's the point of locking the bike to the rack then?

This looks like a cool product but way too much money.
