Countdown to new Prius -- 60 days and counting

Toyota announced today during a monthly sales call that its new 2010 Prius will be available in dealerships at the end of May. The car, recently reviewed by L.A. Times auto critic Dan Neil, features much-lauded improvements and refinements in nearly every area. An increased wheelbase, improved aerodynamics, more legroom, a larger engine and the much talked about feature of three driving modes -- EV, Power and Eco.
Toyota said pricing would not be released until mid-April and also did not comment on whether pricing would be reduced to compete with the upcoming Honda Insight hybrid, which has been announced at less than $20,000.

    Earth Day is April 22.

So, hearing about pricing around that time was a given.

April 15 is also tax day, the day when all of the procrastinators will know if they are getting a refund, and, if it will be enough to put down on the 2010. I vote for 4/15.

I think it makes the most sense to do it on earth day. PLEEEEEZE hurry! PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZE be a good price to kick butt on Honda

    May I ask you?
The MSRP has not announced in US yet?
or going to announced on April/22(Earth day)?
In Japan, Toyota announced MSRP of 2010 PRIUS(base model) is JPYen2,050,000.-
to compete in pricing with 2010 Honda Insight, the base model of MSRP is only JPYen1,890,000.-

No Maido, pricing still has not been announced here yet. We are now guessing it will be April 22nd, but are not 100% sure since Toyota has not said when the pricing will be announced.

We hope though that when they do though, it will be as low as your pricing in Japan to compete with the Insight here as well. :)

Are they still manufacturing the series II Prius? Will they continue to produce it? Might it become the next VW Beetle? I wonder when production of the series II will move to India or Taiwan?

At the New York Auto Show (still going on now), Toyota said that the 2010 Prius would be at our dealers in June.
