B&G, i dont know about the other prius's, but isn't the front of the stock prius a bit HIGHER than the rear? so, meaning, it should be a 1.5 drop in the front, 1" drop in the rear. has anyone noticed this????

The front is a bit higher.. but you need a little extra clearance so when you turn your wheel in a corner you do not catch the fender.:)

Can you give us a explanation why these spring rates were chosen?

    Prius OEM Spring Rates

According to ken1784, here are the spring rates for the Standard and Touring Prius:

    Standard: Front = 24N, Rear = 30N

    Touring: Front = 24N, Rear = 28.5N

The 2006-2009 Standard Prius has the same front struts and springs as the Touring.

But the Touring's rear shocks and springs are different. And yes, the Touring's rear spring rate of 28.5N is actually softer than the Standard's 30N. But I have no idea how the rear shocks compare.

I've ordered a set. As soon as they are in I will take before and after pictures and also height measurements.

I will also try my best to make a "How to" and describe the ride before/after.

I'll let you know as soon as I get them delivered here in Quebec (ordered from Sigma Auto).

I'm still in for a set for an '08 Touring. Any others?
B&G - how many orders is enough interest to make them?

    Tinyfoot,
I just checked and i would need 15 people interested to make the Touring sets.. Thats if i do not have a spring that will work for the car already. If someone could supply me with 1 rear spring i can spec it out to see if i have something that will work.. :)

Are you absolutely sure the rear springs are dimensionally different on the touring model compared to the non-touring? I know that the spring rate is a bit different, but I was pretty sure that they were interchangeable with the regular Prius as a number of people have upgraded their regular Prius with Touring suspension bits (including rear springs).

See this thread for more info: http://priuschat.com/forums/prius-main-forum/41925-touring-suspension-parts-research.html

Perhaps B&G can ship some to someone with a touring Prius with the offer of a full refund if they don't fit, but I fully expect that they would. :)

Really cool thread as I 'm thinking of lowering my Prius. I'll be waiting for some more pictures though to see and get me convinced to lower my ride.

Great news guys.. Had a conversation last night with my factory in Europe and I found out our springs are actually made to work on both the touring and standard Prius..

If anyone is interested in the dimensional differences between the two springs.. here they are the only difference besides the rate is the bottom coil size.

    Standard Prius
    bottom coil
    OD 3.03" (76.96mm)
    ID 2.16" (54.86mm)

    Touring Prius
    bottom coil
    OD 3.34" (84.84mm)
    ID 2.44" (61.98mm)

Great. Looking forward to the pics.

Would also love to read your opinion of the springs' performance, especially with respect to handling.

you know for a stock car.. i think the prius is pretty low. There are time when my car scrapes. I'm really looking for a coilover system.

Handling: I can def. notice little to no body roll. The Goodyears hold it back though. Turn in is much more pronounced. When you turn the wheel the car doesnt lean then turn, it just turns.

Comfort: Not too different. A little more jarring over extremely rough roads but nothing I can't live with.

This is before....I know its dark.

Thanks sdtundra the ride height looks pretty good - any chance you can take measurements from the center of the wheel to the fender lip on all four corners while on flat ground? (Both sides as often measurements can vary from side to side)

    Thanks!

I know this isn't recommended but would it be possible to cut half a coil of each spring to lower the car even more? Would anything suffer other than the car being so close to the ground?

With the way that our springs are designed you could cut a coil of each to lower more.. the only con to this is it will put more stress on the shocks and could cause them to blow out quicker.
