As someone that is in sales, any pitch geared towards "let me tell you about myself!" is crap..... It's all about learning what the prospective buyer is looking for, and catering/consulting to find the best possible solution to the buyers pain.

 

It's probably the non-hybrid version of the Fusion, won't they have models with big honking V6's?

Are you really debating between a Fusion hybrid and a Prius???

Ummm....have you read the reviews on the Fusion? Maybe I've just seen the negative ones? I'm afraid choosing between a 50 mpg hybrid and a 39 (IF that) mpg hybrid is not a decision I find difficult.

ESPECIALLY, when the 50 mpg also comes with so many FREE upgrades!! And is a TOYOTA!!! :cheer2: No offense, but there is a reason Ford is in financial distress and I have known many people that work in their service departments (and the inside joke is, they all know they have job security)...no offense to Ford lovers (are there many on here??) but I know I can trust my Hondas and Toyotas.
Now, if you were telling my insight vs. prius...like so many other threads...I can understand that a bit better.

 

I have always driven ford products. I have never gotten rid of one before 150,000 miles. The reason Ihave gottenrid of them was moving overseas and then back to this country or one of my kids totaled the car. As for quality I can not complain. Maintenance wise I just changed tires, brakes oil and standard items like wiper blades etc.
I am looking at both the Fusiona nd Prius and have to say I am swaying toward the 2010 prius but will need to drive it on the highway and see how bad the noise is. I like the looks and styling of the prius better thanthe fusion. But would never say anything bad about any ford product I have owned or my parents owned. We have always been happy with them. My current Mercury mini van required themost maintenance of any ford I have owned. It needed and air conditioning compressor. That is the first major repair I have done on a ford product and this mini van just went over 180,000. However the fusionlooks like the car my grandfather drove eons ago.

 

In my old age I have become much more careful of consumption of oil products. To support our economy we need to get off foreign oil and that may be by driving a toyota, honda or even ford hybrid.

Hmm...I guess I am coming into the "hybrid" thing a bit differently. I never thought about buying a hybrid car that was still fun/sporty to drive. I mean, to me hybrid meant at least 40 MPG, cause it has to beat my current 1995 Honda Civic (which gets 40 mpg...of course, it putts along and will barely beat a turtle off the line). So when I was looking for a new car, I was SHOCKED when the ones I wanted got between 25-32 MPG (non-hybrid).

I would now have at least $400/month payment AND have to pay at least $50 more in gas every month!!! That was unacceptable to me. But since I didn't need anything fancy...I actually think the prius looks fine (i don't get the status symbol thing but I'm "soccermom" so guess it can fit )...and I just need a car to drive better than my 95 civic. Hard NOT to beat it. hehe

So I decided against getting the style I like (nissan murano-ish..I really liked the idea of having 3rd row seating but with only 1 kid right now, that is a ways away...maybe they'll have prius station wagon by then so I can be REAL stereo-type enviro-soccer-mom ).
Also, just for the record, my husband drives an 05 Subaru STI (28 mpg if lucky) with about $10k in upgrades and is getting ready to race so I HAVE to save money on gas so he can go blow it all at the track!! :rockon:

If you take into account that you want to be better for the environment and still have a car that handles and feels like normal car...I guess I can see why fusion hybrid would appeal to people. It is just SO hard for me to get over the fact that "normal" mid-size cars (camry, accord, also) still can't get more than 40 MPG. Disappointed there. I know the technology is there and maybe if more people buy the more expensive hybrid and prove to car manufacturers that there IS a market...we'll see better and SOON! Hmm...if they made a hybrid subaru legacy that got 40 MPG...I'd probably switch to that.

You REALLY do get a lot of nifty techno stuff in both fusion and prius, and I think the prius will come in $2-4k under the fusion hybrid pricing with very similar options. So, for me, having about equal interior space in both and basically same options, I gotta go with the one that smokes the competition (at this moment in time) for MPG. :cheer2:
I didn't mean to be so negative to Ford owners though! I know we can go off on tangent on how long my car has lasted vs yours and maintenance costs, etc. so I will concede that some Fords are great...just never the ones I've had.

 

Whatever gets the most fuel efficient category of cars on the road is all I care about. Competition is good; it forces development.

I used to like Ford; my whole family had them and I had a '66 Mustang, '68 Mustang, and a '92 Explorer. My four year ownership experience with the Explorer was so horrible that I sold all three and I will NEVER buy another FORD product, EVER. Come to think of it, my whole family now drives Hondas and Toyotas. Weird.
