We have a large dog, a Labrador Retriever that weighs about 75 pounds and are considering buying the 2010 Prius. Can a large dog like this fit in the existing Prius hatchback? We also have 2 kids, so folding down the rear seats may not be an option all the time.

    Thanks for the feedback!

too bad Henry Drygas has passed away. he had a Newfoundland. (a BIG one) and it rode in the back. ok. but i think that he had to lay one of the back seats down for the dog to be comfortable, but this dog was 75 lbs TIMES THREE!!

my parents lab is about 70 lbs, and she'd fit in the back of my 07 fine. i don't know exactly how the hatch of the '10 compares to the '07 though, but i'd assume they're close enough.

2010, supposed to have more cargo room, so would think the dimensions would be somewhat larger. actually a great question...

what is the interior hatch area differences?

If you plan on the dog jumping in the back, I'd recommend getting the bumper guard first. Our dog jumped in, but her nails scratched the bumper.

Hatch space is bigger on the 2010. It will now hold three golf bags instead of two.

I thought the 2010 had 5 additional cubic feet.

We also have a 75lb lab and he curls up fine in the back. There's enough height so he can sit up (near the seatback), or lie down when it's time for a nap.

I only have 40 lbs of dogs, one 25 lb and one 15 lb, but they fit with room to spare. I could probably fit at least another 100 lbs of dogs if I had to.

Well, it might, but you'd terrify the neighbors

Boston Dynamics: The Leader in Lifelike Human Simulation

Depending on your neighbors, that might be a *good* thing. Especially once you wrestle the robot out of the hatch, fire it up, point it at your neighbors, and ...

"Get em, boy! Sic em! KILL!"

It helps to laugh in a maniacal and deranged manner while shouting those commands!

We have 2 chocolate Labrador retreivers. One is 95 lbs and the other is 85 lbs. Both of the "boys" fit well in the Prius.

I rented a 2009 Prius a month or so ago and my 60 pound Goldendoodle fit just fine. He could not sit comfortably (had to lay down), but it would work.

Wow, thanks for all the responses! It sounds like our beloved Lab, Amigo should fit just fine back there.
