The 2010 Prius is at the top of my wish list right now, but I am a bit confused about the Canadian specs. I read the post from Doug Coleman. He lists the Prius II, III, IV and V, with the optional add-on packages. (US specs) I recently visited my Canadian dealer and was given a "vehicle ordering guide" (dated: Feb 23, 2009). The guide lists 5 different packages: A - Prius B - Premium Package C - Premium Package with Solar Panel D - Technology Package E - Touring Package Each package seems to build on the one previous. So the Technology Package includes all the Premium Package with Solar Panel goodies... plus the Tech stuff. According to Doug's post, the Technology Package isn't available with the Solar Panel due to the "weight and engineering challenge". I'm wondering if this is all different in Canada. It seems odd that we would have those options available together in Canada but not in the US. Any thoughts? Anyone from Canada order the Tech Package and not be able to get the Solar Panel as well?
You never know. The Technology Package could be built on the Premium Package. If this is true, it appears that the 17" wheels aren't available until you move up to Pkg "E" (i.e. the Touring Package). Again, it could be mutually exclusive but knowing Toyota, Touring also can have absolutely nothing to do with sporty add ons like foglights and 17" alloys. (See the Touring package on the Venza or the Touring Package on the Camry which adds 16" alloys among other things). Interesting.... 5 is a lot more than we've ever seen. Only the Yaris has seen 5 (I think it hit 6 once) packages. The Gen 2 RAV4 stopped at 4 packages.
After further inspection, you're right. They are built upon one another except one but I'm not gonna say anything out of respect for Toyota Canada as they haven't officially released the packages and I don't want to say anything that'll compromise my position.
It does seem that all the packages build on each other until you get to the Touring Package. This one steps off to the side a bit. It does include the 17" wheels but you loose some of the Tech pack features. If anyone is interested in knowing the package details I was supplied, I'll post them tonight.
As has been mintioned by Tideland and others in other threads, the "weight" issue in the U.S. seems to be related more to arcane EPA issues than to the capabilities of the car. So Canada and Japan are both to have "touring" packages. Can't wait to see what that actually means.
You can see here what the packages include: I managed to get a spec and order sheet from my dealer and it lists all the packages: View here: ( just replace ** with tt ) h**p://yfrog.com/0laquafj
OK, so adds 17" wheels and LED headlamps (and auto light switch that is a Canandian only option?). That is confusing as to whether it includes the solar moonroof and advanced tech. Doesn't directly say it does, but it wouldn't make sense for it not to be cumulative.
It may not make sense, but I'd guess that is the way it is. If it does not explicitly list an item then you should assume it is not included.
It's not. Just compare the features. If it builds on it, you'll see "blah blah package PLUS" or alternatively, you'll see the new stuff underlined.
Just got back from placing my own order for a 2010. After speaking to a couple dealers to varify it seems that blue ribon metalic is not a color option for the tech package, it might be just for the first few batches to not, but at this time it seems you can't order a blue ribbon w/ tech package (in canada) Now just to wait for pricing to be released and hope the Tech package doesn't come in at too high of a premium
mmm indeed. It's the first time I've seen this much technology in a non luxury car so I'm really anxious to the know the price but at the same time, worried that it will touch the $40k mark which means there'll be a huge gap between the Tech Package and the other models. I don't know too many people that might spring for a $40k Prius (esp. since most already say a $30k one is too expensive... but at least the solar panels are accessible at a lower package so more people can opt for it and hopefully that'll support Toyota's R&D in solar panel development)
I'm in the same boat. Just ordered a 2010 in Winter Grey with Tech Package. Dying to know the pricing of that package. I'm guessing that we'll be looking at 38-40K (plus taxes) in Canada. Any other educated guesses?
That's my range too... I had a thread - Canadian Spec... ulation. I must say ea was fairly close in his guess for packages.
And Im guessing that even I will pass on the car as will many others and not be too concerned about the wizardry if it is around that price !... I dont know if Toyota is really that ignorant to the current economic climate, esp with Ford Fusion and Honda Insight pricing !
Well keep in mind that this technology is still limited to luxury vehicles (MB and Lexus). Think about it, what other car in Canada has radar cruise at this price? None. You're gonna have to move up to the GS.
Very true ! I just wonder how many people will be buying this for the radar cruise ? 50mpg is a huge selling point ! so it all boils down to what the base price is and then people who can dish the $$ can opt for the tech ! What a great forum this is.....great civil discussions !
One of the very few forums where it can actually occur for the entire discussion. That's one reason I've stuck around. Well I was just thinking about the packages today. The only way Toyota Canada can offer the features at a lower price is to package them. The only way to get people to buy them is to package them with other options people would be more willing to buy. So what are the other options? That'll be the leather interior w/ heated seats and maybe the navigation system. If Toyota Canada were to offer the AT Package (like TMS does in the US), then most Canadians may stop at the leather + nav and not make the jump to the AT Package. And I'm sure the radar cruise is a big selling point. You just have to get PCS and IPA along with it (should be cheaper because LKA isn't included). However, I'm kinda bummed that LED headlights are only available on the Touring package. I'd really like a model with that but also with a few more features (e.g. solar panels or nav). mmm yes. There's gonna be a big price jump so I'm guessing they're banking on the Premium Package as their best seller or maybe the PP w/ Solar Panels.
I'm not sure how much of this is new... but Toyota Canada launched their new website today. Here is a link to the Prius page - Prius News (you can sign up to be emailed with any updates)
I was looking back at the packages for the US. It seems like the base US Prius will be very similar to the base Canadian Prius.
