Hi I just turned 100,000 over the weekend with my 05 Prius. It is running like it is brand new. I am a distributor. I bought it used fourteen months ago with 51,000k. I use 5W 20 Amsoil XL synthetic oil. Two of my fellow distributors have bought them since I bought mine. One fellow has put on 70,000 miles since April, 2008. We plan to run them out to at least 300,000 miles or more. A wonderful car! Unbelievable, really.
My 2005 package 6 just turned 105,000 without a problem. To celebrate that milestone, I just bought an '08 leather steering wheel ('05's were not offered with leather steering wheels or interior) from an auto salvage yard in perfect condition. I plan (hopefully) to install it this weekend.
I have the 2005 with 100,000 just above your post. I have have two of those wonderful little weiner dogs!
2002 Classic Prius purchased in December 2001 now with 102000 miles. Only major problem was inverter coolant pump failed at about 85000 miles, but under warranty so only had to pay about $400. One other, sort of inadvertent, problem was road debris punched a hole in part of my radiator and drained coolant, so had to get that fixed also. Used for commuting back and forth to work. russ55
My little 2002 just keeps humming along at 127,202 miles. So far, we've had the 12v battery replaced (warranty) and the computer replaced (90k, warranty), and I guess I'll just have to keep driving her until Toyota comes up with another Prius with a trunk, or till she gives it all up and rolls over. Hopefully that won't be for a long time, yet.
Well my 05 Prius just turned to 119k and my best friends 04 just turned to 174k! My car doesnt look a day past 20k! I just installed Katzkin tan leather, got the entire kit w arm rests and door panels for less than 300.00. Just bought a stiffening plate and plan on installing it this weekend before i make the trip from Tx to IA. I also purchased an 07 leather wheel from a salvage yard and plan on putting it in to complete my leather transformation!
Our 2005 just hit 100K today. Would have been sooner but for the last year we have been favoring our Smart Car for local trips. Only regret was buying the extended warranty which we never collected a dime on. Fortunately we found a discounted warranty through Prius Chat. Oh well. No problems at all and plan to keep the car as long as we can. Just replaced the 12V battery a few weeks ago. No warning before it failed but not too hard to replace once you get it out which was a bit of a pain. Joe
My 2005 just topped 120,000 miles. I drive this for work (and pleasure). I've used mobile 1 since the first oil change and the engine still runs like new. I have had no major problems. the arm rests are a little worn and I would like to replace them if I could find a place to get them. I love this car. I'm considering the 2010, but I certainly can't justify it by saying my 2005 is "worn out."
My car just passed the 175,000 mile mark this week. The battery finally gave in this afternoon. No warning, just dash went black and car wouldnt start. Jumped the car off another vehicle and drove it home. Got home (20 minute drive) then turned car off. Tried to start car again and nothing - just blackness. Went to Autozone and got a Gold Duralast with replacement terminals for ~$95. Theres no vent hole on it, but it fits great. Works great too, now hopefully it wont overcharge and leak all over the boot. Btw i use all sorts of motor oils and the car still runs great. You dont 'have' to use synthetics or expensive conventionals to keep the engine running strong.
For some reason, the search is not returning.... Here is the link: http://priuschat.com/forums/prius-main-forum/57091-200-000-mile-club.html
Just joined this great site; lots of very useful DIY repair info here to supplement my factory service manuals . I ordered the car in October 2004, took delivery in May 2005. It has 140,000 miles on it. I've replaced tires twice and am due for the third set very soon. Switched to Goodyear Assurance Comfortreads which greatly improved handling in rain / snow but reduced the mileage by about 1-2 MPG. Still average about 48 MPG Summer and 45 MPG winter. Brand of gasoline makes a big difference: as much as 4 MPG less with the "quickie- mart " brands, which I now avoid. Problems have been limited to an HID lamp replacement at 112,000, changed both as cheap insurance; the engine water pump(noisy bearing) and belt at about 139,000. Otherwise routine filter / oil / coolant changes per the service schedule, some wiper blades and bulbs.... My round trip commute to the office is 82 miles, most of it highway. Love this car!
Looking to Buy '05 Prius with 140K Miles Hey everyone- I am not a current Prius owner, but am looking to purchase one and saw an ad for a 2005 Prius with 144K miles for $4,300. I was hoping current/past Prius owners who have passed the 100K mile mark (especially in only 3-4 years) could provide some insight, thoughts and feedback on the ad - seems to good to be true, no? Any suggestions on what specifically I should ask the owner? If I do a test drive, anything in particular I should look / hear for? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Re: Looking to Buy '05 Prius with 140K Miles Has the car been in any accidents? If so, what body work was done? What maintenance has been done to the car i.e., how frequently have engine oil and oil filter changes been performed, were the 100K and 120K mile services performed where the engine and inverter coolants and iridium spark plugs were replaced, etc. Was the transaxle ATF fluid ever changed? Are all repair invoices available for your inspection? If engine oil was not replaced at 5K mile intervals, I would question whether maintenance was adequate - unless a reputable brand full synthetic oil was used, in that case 7.5K to 10K mile intervals might be OK. Does the car have clear title (or is it salvage?) If the latter I recommend you run away - unless you are a risk taker... Regarding a test drive, Prius is quite different from other vehicles and makes several unusual noises. I suggest that if you are serious about Prius, that you take a test drive of a new vehicle so that you have a standard to compare against. If you decide that you like the car in question, I strongly suggest that you pay ~$100 for one hour of labor time and have the Prius specialist at your local Toyota dealer check the car out. Prius is highly reliable; however if the particular car you are looking at has an unwarranted electrical or transaxle problem, this can quickly become a high four-digit repair bill. Good luck.
