Another piece of the puzzle that we don't have the information is the crash test safety rating.

2010 Prius is supposedly heavier to make it safer. How will the Insight do? We'll have to wait and see.

The current NiMH HV battery pack is only 99 lbs. Lithium would be able to cut the weight by half so you'll loose 50 lbs.

Yep, you can get a 1.3 litre Yaris here and I'm sure they have smaller in the UK and Asia

iQ has 1.33 4cly engine and 1.4 4cly diesel engine.

As to the new cheaper vehicle, who knows, every outlet is telling different story.. it could simply be package 1 prius, as Prius by default, has a lot more standard equipment than Insight.

I have seen new Avensis stripped down to the metal - orginal Avensis scored highest rating in 2003 in EuroNCAP, and I can tell you that new one has a lot better crash protection - it will still be 5 stars, but much better than previous gen vehicles.

Same goes for new Corolla Verso and then I assume Prius as well.

There was significantly more work done to improve safety of back passangers in both side and back crashes, as well as roof.

That's pretty good pricing!! However the ¥ to CAD exchange rate isn't that great. Direct conversion of the G Touring w/ Leather is Cdn$42.5k!!! Ouch!

Would be nice if the 100Â¥ to CAD1 still applied lol. I wouldn't mind a G Touring w/Leather for $33k lol.

Yup, just one week after I ask Toyota NZ and get a similar "we haven't decided yet" answer they are quoted in the cover story of the motoring section last week's NZ Herald as saying the new models will be more expensive than the current models because they are so high-tech. (This despite the fact that the low end model will be lower tech than the current base model). The article did have a nice summary of features though and the cover photo showed the IPA in operation.

I'd post a link but the Herald doesn't put its weekly motoring section on-line.

Correction: This is the 'assumed" price, of the Japanese 2010 Prius. While this may be indicative of the pricing schema to be used in the US, the options may not be the same, or prices similarly either. I will still await 'official' pricing, it is nice to see some estimate.

I had an opportunity to see a dealer's internal document, and it says the exact same pricing above.

    I envy you Ken.

A dealer here in Portugal said the 2010 model will have an entry price for Portugal at about 33k Eur, and the top model will reach 40k Eur!

Considering the current model starts at 27k Eur and top model at 30k Eur, I dare saying Toyota Europe/Portugal is shooting itself in the foot. Or rather they are steeping into a mine field.

Honda, which is selling the HCH for less than 23k Eur, and the Insight now for less than 20k Eur will for sure thank Toyota for commiting Seppuku!

I just don't understand how Toyota policies can vary so much from country to country, market to market. I'm baffled!

i dont think your dealer knows the price - in fact i am sure they dont... corporate decides on pricing few days before/after car is released on the market... so that means May/June in most of European countries.

Believe me, he knows. I just hope Toyota changes its mind till release date. I sure hope so.

That's another sad story... due to a reason I'm not allowed to go public with, the Prius will start selling in Portugal only by September 2009.

    Talk about suicidal policies...

There's just been a review of today's newspapers on a Japanese morning show and one of the articles was Insight vs. Prius - the hybrid battle. It mentioned (confirmed?) the 20.5 million yen base price Ken mentioned above for the Japanese model.

i am telling you they dont :). Toyota Portugal didnt receive end pricing from factory, let alone the dealer. It doesnt work that way. Pricing calculations are always done last minute before or after official start of sales :). We have been Toyota dealer for 7 years and we never ever got pricing 5 months before release. We get approved prices usually week before or in the week where sales start.

Not only that, due to so many new models, I am pretty sure that right now, Prius is last thing on their mind. They just released Yaris, Auris RC, iQ and UC, Verso are coming within month, as well as new Rav4...

BTW - whats the price of Avensis 2.0 D4D Luna in Portugal (mid equipment, no leather)?

I'm not saying (or at least that was not what I meant) that they know the precise price. I'm saying they know the base price range (before taxes), and have done some rough numbers with it.

Anyway, for the record, I sure hope you are right and they are wrong!

We don't have the luna pack anymore. There is only one 2.0 D4D Avensis being sold for 32.730 Eur.

    Check it out here:
    Toyota - Avensis

Is the price of this Avensis related in any related to the Prius price you think?
