well, the 75% was a stated goal, i guess its always better to aim high.

Good point. This one explicitly mentions mpg. Other sites have hinted at mpg figures though, stating that the chief got 62.9mpg and a number of people beat it.

Cool! Thanks Ken for the chart.

What is the car doing during the first 3 minutes? It seems the temp remained below 0 deg C.

After 4 mins in 2010 the temp is about the same as the 23rd minute in the Iconic!

I assume the 9.2% better MPG is for the entire 23 minutes trip.

Remember that the automatic climate control stays off to let the engine warm up faster and to avoid blasting cold air into the cabin. Maybe that's why the graph jumps at 3 or 4 mins?

How exactly/technically does the engine warm up faster without the thermos bottle?

Electrical resistance embedded in the engine block pulling 3kW from the alternator?

exhaust heat recirculation system. It uses the exhaust heat to heat up the engine coolant.

Depending on the model, you could always turn the seat heater on. My HyCam butt/back sensor says things are toasty within about 2 minutes starting from 20°F.

Looks like I'll still be in the engine block heater business.

    Hi Wayne,
Of course, the EBH is the best equipment as a poor man's plug-in. :)

    Ha ha ... nice try!

Too bad mutual funds don't work that way ... just add up the cumulative percent gains of each of the individual stocks ... and presto! ... your mutual fund with 50 different stocks gains 400% year after year.

For reference, the Iconic Prius takes about 4.8 seconds for 30-50 mph.

umm, the 0-100km/h time looks like the NHW10/11 not the NHW20.

0-100km/h time has both NHW10/11 (Classic) and NHW20 (Iconic).

What I find interesting is that the 2010 Prius ECO mode 30-50mph (50-80km/h) acceleration is the same (5.8 secs) as the Classic Prius!

And then there's this little gem from THIS Edmonds story about the upcoming marketing for the Prius, and the competition it faces:

"Indeed, a number of reviewers who have driven both cars say that while Toyota has done a good job of improving the Prius' ride and handling, the Insight is a sportier car that's more fun to drive."

Don't you love how most never define what "fun" actually means to them?

That's the desired market anyway, the source of bulk sales... the ones who don't rank "fun" high on the priority list.

It's when technology disappears into the background that mass penetration into the market becomes realistic. That's not a bad thing, working against Prius. It's a plus.

D'oh! For some reason, I read the THS-II as the new one and I forgot to read the 1.5l that was in the brackets.

    Thanks!
