Hello I am thinking of buying a used Prius and had a couple of questions. These may seem dumb but I have not bought a used car since high school since I am paranoid about buying someone elses problem. I will say I will look at a 2009 depending on pricing. Anyways, I am thinking of a 2007/2008 either option 5 or 6. Questions: I assume whatever is left of the 3/36K warranty transfers to me? Is there anyway to tell the option # from the VIN? I don't think so but figured I would confirm. Is there some big added value that you can think for buying a certified used Prius from a Toyota dealer? If the original warranty transfers to me, I do not see the big value versus a non certified. Is there anything in particular that I should look at on a used Prius? I.E areas of concern. Once again, I don't think so but figured I would ask. I would ask about opinions on pricing but I know this varies widely by area. In my first looks, it looks like a 2008 option 5 is about $21K roughly in my area. This may go down as the 2010 gets closer I suppose. Thx
I can't help you. I clicked in thinking you wanted to buy some used research questions. I can help you with that. Tom
2007/2008 package 5 VSC HomeLink mirror JBL 6 CD changer HID headlights with foglights NAV package 6 add leather trimmed seats & steering wheel Only 5's & 6's have NAV. The 3 buttons on the right side of the MFD are "Menu", "Dest", & "Map". There are 4 buttons on the left side. Spectra Blue for 2008 is the only color change. This is a dark blue not to be confused with Seaside. The warranty balance will transfer either way. There is also the longer emissions warranty & hybrid warranty. No, the package is not in the VIN. IMO "Certified" used cars are just marketing to get more for a used car. New car sales are in the tank. So are used car sales. Read through www.carbuyingtips.com and I'll leave the technical questions to the experts. 2007-2009 are identical. The paint scratches easily so don't be put off by lots of hairline scratches on forward surfaces. We seem to pick them up in different places. BTW I can give you a better price than qbee42 on used research questions.
Thanks Jim, I appreciate your feedback. Looking at this thread title now I wish I could change it. It made sense when I started the thread yesterday though.
