I bought a 2004 Prius last December 2008. Few weeks ago I noticed the Maint Req'd light came on and stay on while driving. I read the manual and it says that if the light came on when the engine turns on, and stays on for 15 seconds, it is to remind me that it is time to change the oil. I understand that. But the light stays on until the engine turns off! I took it to Toyota dealer about that, they kept saying it is time for oil change, and I told them it was done last December 2008. But SOLID light on doesn't mean it's time to change the oil, is it? It could meant that there is something else is having problem? They just refuse to run the diagnosis to find out the real reason. Should I worry?
The manual also instructs you how to shut the light off. But like many, you probably didn't enjoy the read. Instead, try the Iconic model User-Guide. Basically, blinking means you are in the 4,500 to 5,000 mile range since the previous reset. Solid means you've exceeded 5,000 miles. .
It's a 5000 mile meter and nothing else. The dealer apparently forgot to reset it at the last oil change because it was not on at that time. It's perfectly safe to ignore it or reset it yourself.
