Nu Finish Scratch Doctor Clear Coat Scratch Remover - Very Good

    short story -

    Nu Finish Clear Coat Scratch Remover (bright orange bottle) completey removed a small area of dulled, hazed finish that was originally caused by Meguiar's Scratch X 2.0 while trying to remove a 4" surface scratch. The Nu Finish left a perfect finish on clear coat from every angle I could see in the sun.

    the long story -

    I got a couple very small nicks in the hood and a 4" scratch low on the passenger door.

    I bought some Meguiar's Scratch X 2.0 in a black plastic bottle. Says it's safe on all finishes and promises will not scratch finish like other products.

    Washed both areas, rubbed around nick and scratch with 100% terry bonnet with Meguiar's product. Nick didn't fade. The scratch diminished, but, the areas around both were dulled, and hazed - the finish was damaged. Water, washing with cloth, the haze was in there for good. I was pissed.

    Got money back after declaring 'this product scratched my $30k , blah, blah ...'

    Went to another store, bought Nu Finish, but honestly didn't think it would help either.

    So, applied Nu Finish with another cotton bonnet. Dries quickly. Rubbed it off carefully. OMG, the haze from Meguiar's was gone!! No lie. And the original scratch was minimized too.

    Did the same thing around the nicked area. Almost blinded self looking for clear coat scratches. Completely gone, ixnay.

    Now, I'm interested in more of their products as I've always seen a car polish in the stores. Bright orange bottle.

    Just worked on the deep scratch, 4" long two more times with the Nu Finish. Although the scratch is not eliminated, it is minimized without any surrounding damage that I can see.

    Certainly:D I had a need for one as well, knew that CR rates them, from time to time, so I looked and found it. Kragens didn't have it when I was there. We'll have it in a few days. Called, go back, they had one on the shelf:eek: Don't they get more than one in at a time? :confused:
    They didn't have any when I left:D

    You could have also followed up with Megs SwirlX. The new ScratchX 2.0 has new abrasives that make it much more aggressive than the old one. See here.

    In general, one should use the polish with the minimal amount of abrasiveness to get the scratch out. In your case, you needed a pretty abrasive compound to get out the 4" scratch, which left its own micromarring. So the second step is to use a light abrasive polish to remove the micromarring.

    Now you need to make sure you clean and seal/wax that area, because you just rubbed off all previously applied wax.

    Related to the Quixx Acrylic Scratch remover: does anyone know if the plastic cover for the odometer readout and other plastic parts such as the radio front and CD storage door are acrylic, plexiglass, or polycarbonate?

    I don't know, but I do not wipe with anything more abrasive than a glass cleaning cloth on those areas.

    Even a microfiber terry finish towel scratched the plastic around the radio volume knob, in that area.
