"If at first, the idea is not absurd, then there is no hope for it" -Albert Einstein TV Advertisement | HYBRID SYNERGY DRIVE
Has anyone seen a commercial for the Prius on television ... ever ? I'm wondering if, with Toyota's 32 percent drop in total vehicle sales, if they are going to start putting more commercials on television. Perhaps, we will begin seeing Prius commercials.
We've had a few here. When, as they were in the US, they're selling every car with a waiting list, there's no need for additional advertising. In fact, advertising a product you can't buy might be counter-productive. There was no waiting list here - you could get your car within a few weeks, even with the fuel prices at their maximum. A Prius doesn't offer a huge fuel economy improvement over a diesel (there is one, over similar-sized diesels, but it's not stark). Our high fuel taxes meant that even when the price of oil was 3.5x what it is now, the price of petrol was only 42% higher. That wasn't sufficient stimulus to get people to trade in their cars.
But look how well it's worked for GM and the Volt. There were some Prius ads about a year ago when the waiting list went away. Then lately I've seen the Prius alongside other Toyota vehicles in their commercials. But in general, not many.
I have never seen a TV ad for Prius here. Just now, the ONLY Toyota ads are for the Venza, and those are running at least once per hour for the past week! (Alright, I only have the TV on in the evenings, no idea if it is once per hour all day long.)
