I took two ferry rides is the Seattle area the other day and had the same problem. When I got off the ferry the nav position was still sitting at the dock where I got on the ferry. When I got off the ferry the tracking went off on it's own from the point I got onto the ferry and never recovered. By the time I got home the tracking symbol was many miles off so I had to reset it back to my current position.
I have made these same ferry rides several times with the old 4.1 software a few years ago there was no problem. When I got off the ferry the nav system picked up my real position within a minute and tracked properly.
    I think I have two problems;
1- I have upgraded from the old 4.1 software.
2- The LockPick installation disables heading and wheel rotation inputs.

I haven't messed with the software on my 2007 but I did install the LockPick. On a several day trip last week, it seemed that my nav would get lost after I engaged the LockPick using the stick pin on the destination page. I first noticed it on a very crooked road and the nav indicator just started heading out cross country then it would turn around and point the wrong direction. This went on for many minutes, long after I had gotten to a straight and level section of road. I suspect it has something to do with the lockpick. I tried stopping and re-entering the destination so that I didn't need the lockpick but that didn't help. Only turning off the car and re-starting seemed to fix the problem. Happened several times on the trip. We'll be going on another trip this week so will see if I can do more to issolate the cause.

If you were in mountainous country at around sunset or sunrise the signal from the satellites isn't the best and can cause compromised accuracy. Also a thick tree canopy and clouds or atmospheric inversion can affect the GPS.

Most systems either show you as going straight until they detect a change of direction or they follow the road on the map until they pick up you have deviated from it.

I have been pressing the I AGREE button on the MFD right after I turn the car on and before I move.
This seems to stop the LockPick from engaging and stopping the dead reckoning (heading and wheel spin inputs).
The problem seems to be considerably less if not eliminated.
When I use this procedure and go around corners where the map is not co-located with the road's actual position, the tracking will jump a bit but always come back to the correct road.
If I don't press the I AGREE button, and let LockPick work when the car starts moving, the tracking will get lost on the same corners that worked correctly when I pressed the I AGREE button.

I haven't noticed the problem yet with normal startup and the Lockpick I AGREE overide. It was only after pressing the map pin to disconnect the motion input and enter a destination. I didn't have a problem on the trip last week but will be checking it out some more in the next couple weeks.

This behavior was definitely different than straight line (or road based) dead reconning. The indicator would meandor and twist/turn like it was getting bad data. It lasted for at least 5 minutes after reaching straight and open road (vineyard on both sides with no tree canopy). I'm guessing it has something to do with the lockpick restoring motion data to the nav system.

I'm having a major problem with my factory nav system. Not sure if it's something with the gyroscope / dead reckoning or, more likely, the device that receives the GPS signals from the satellite.

I've had an 08 Prius for exactly a year and never had any trouble with GPS first six months. Then in the fall, the nav system would frequently "lose" me, i.e. there was no GPS signal from the satellites showing on the screen and the dead reckoning would eventually get out of whack after several turns.

When I have a GPS signal, everything works fine of course. For a few months I've been religiously watching the screen and noting when I have GPS reception and when I don't. The trouble is I estimate that I have a GPS signal ABOUT 10% of the time. That cannot be the norm!

I live in Nashville and will maintain a signal if I'm just running errands around town. If I get 10-20 miles out of the city, the signal will disappear and might never come back for hours on a road trip, even if I drive through cities like Louisville, Cincinnatti, Columbus, where there should obviously be satellite reception. I'm getting very frustrated now that my GPS has become so unreliable.

Is it possible my receiver thing is not working properly? (I have no Lockpick stuff or any other additions/modifications.) Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I think this is a double post already being discussed in another thread.
