I really like the new Prius, both interior and exterior. I think Toyota has made a big step in the new model. I can't wait to see it in person, but until it arrives to Spain, I have a lot of questions that I hope you guys who have touched and smelled it in Detroit could answer. For me the most important part of a car is, besides fuel economy, practicity (I think it's a correct word, I mean the practical things). So my questions are, in no particular order:
    • Does it have rain sensor to automatically adjust wiper speed?
    • Does it have light sensor to automatically turn on lights on tunnels and at night?
    • To open the moon roof, do you have to hold the button until it is fully opened or is it automatic, like the power windows? (also, I can't find any picture of the roof buttons. Do you have any?)
    • How do you close the car? Touching the sensor on the door handle?
    • Any word about the Heads Up Display? Pictures of the European version clearly shows dedicated buttons for it! hud.jpg
    • Does it have an USB connector or a SD card slot to play music from? I know it has an AUX connector in the arm rest to put an MP3 player, but I would like to be able to control the music from the steering wheel.
Well, I know they are a lot of questions, but I am eager to know more details of it and in Spain we are usually the last ones to get new things :(

    Thank you in adcance.

practicality is the word you want.

I will try to answer the ones I know:

I believe it is auto, but I can't find a photo. I'm sure we have one somewhere. I'll keep looking.

It has a USB connector and also streaming Bluetooth.

I've been asking about the USB port since you guys came back. Still haven't got a definitive answer yet.... :(

I believe the USB port will handle a standard thumb drive, but I don't know for sure.

Yes, but where was it? All I found in the console were AUX line-in and 12V.

Perhaps under the passenger seat. To use the USB, you need two socket wrenches, an open end wrench, and a #2 Phillips screwdriver... :D

There wasn't one. I only overheard somewhere that there's a USB option. No mention if they meant USB for iPod or USB for flashdrive. There is bluetooth audio though (I saw the screen on one of the navigation-equipped models).

    Not on the US-spec model

Most likely. The current Canadian-spec model has automatic headlights but the US-spec didn't.

It is Auto-Open but not close. It has two opening positions too. I think it's about one inch between the two open positions

The buttons are the ones found in the sneak peek. It just says OPEN and CLOSE.

Yes. I swiped my finger across the sensor but it is a little slow to respond. I didn't try touching and leaving my finger there.

Nope but yeah the Euro-version has buttons for it. Only the Lexus HS250h here in North America gets the HUD option.

I've heard USB integration but I'm not sure if it's for a flashdrive or for the iPod.

I'm eagerly reading new information and comments on the 3rd generation Prius. I definitely would like it to be my next car to replace my 10 year old Saturn. Some have said that the changes on the new Prius aren't enough to merit an upgrade from their current Prius. That's probably accurate, but it definitely entices those of us who still drive non-hybrid cars.

I found two forum postings which give much information on the new Prius. I skimmed and found two answers which are quoted below:

    • Auto-Open power moonroof with two stage opening
    • The center console has a jack for an ipod "same as before", but there is also an option for USB. The system will not read files from a usb stick.
