Very good questions. As good as the 3G / 2010 Prius looks outside, there may be a plug-in version coming in a couple or 3 years, with new battery technology, I suppose. So, to buy a 2010, then, maybe a 2012 comes with Li-Ion and plug-in capability - might make the '10 look old-school. :focus:
Talking to a dealer the other day, their understanding the 2010 will be the 3rd gen design. 2011 or 2012 will see the new battery technology and plug-in capability. So, I'm going to wait.
My Partner is waiting to trade in his 03 Saturn for one. Had to talk him out of the 09.... I am waiting for the Plug in to trade my 07.
I did not realize 37000 was the "average" price of the car.. either stock or fully loaded I am not sure. But that is a lot of dough for a vehicle. Definite No. I will stick with my 2008 for seven years easy.
I would buy if I did not own a Prius but since I own a 2008 I will keep it for many years, perhaps give it to my son when he is 16 which is in about 12 years. By then I will be looking for a 300HP EV Sports sedan which will be charged by our future rooftop solar panels. John
As much as I'd like a new Prius, especially one that addresses my concerns with the first of the 'iconic' generation... I'm still thinking about it.
Now to revise my answer it's very tempting but it'll come down to what Toyota Canada can offer to us.
I plan to trade my 2002 for a 2010 as it's a bit cramped w/ 3 in the back, my wife will get the 2004 until a hybrid Minivan comes available, or I trade it for a used TCH.
Yes, the Toyota Canada offer is a big part of it for me, too. That and what I can get for a 2004 with 60,000 km.
Not me. I'm disappointed that there's no plug. When there's a plug (put there by Toyota), I'll consider buying one. I also have a deposit on an Aptera, but they slipped into late 2009. Of course, they could slip again. I wouldn't be surprised.
I'm #1 on the waiting list for the 2010 at my local dealer. He didnt have a list started last July until I asked. I've owned 6 new Toyotas so this will be #7 for me. I guess you can say I'm brand loyal. The early invitations that Toyota sent out are nice for the people that received them
It's a no for me as I have a perfectly working 2007 Prius. If I still owned a non-hybrid I would seriously consider it. The benefits of going from a non-hybrid to the Prius is much greater than upgrading from G2 to G3. Cars are a depreciable asset thus I prefer to hang on to them for a long time (shortest I owned a car is 8 years and as long as 12). I do hope there is very good market support for the G3 thus paving the road for further advancement.
My guess is that Toyota Canada will put the screws to us again and will significantly inflate their offerings. (I welcome them proving me wrong!) I just wonder in today's economy if cross-border shopping will be more acceptable again by US dealers?
I hope they prove you wrong too. I can foresee them not offering the ACC/PCS/LKA package as that can be quite costly thus saving us a few thousand that way. They can leave ACC/PCS/LKA to Lexus Canada and the HS250h. In addition, the Canadian news release on toyota.ca has no mention of ACC/PCS/LKA other than the part where it reiterates the US press release so I'm fairly confident in that aspect. They did mention LED headlights and the solar panel moonroof. Given that ACC/PCS/LKA is out of the way, I'm hoping they'll package the LED headlights and SPM together. In addition, they leave the navigation/backup camera/IPA as a separate package. While I'd like the backup camera and IPA, I have no need for the navigation system (esp. since the hybrid information isn't on it any more) so if I can save a few grand and get everything else except nav, I'm a happy camper... well at a reasonable cost too. If the pricing is similar to the 2005 Prius, I won't be able to grab one. If it's like the current 08/09 (did anyone noticed that they bumped the price by $310?) then I should be able to get an almost loaded sans nav version. I'll need to do some calculations. Leather or cloth doesn't matter to me, I can go either way.
