Am I the only one who DOESN'T care about the 2010?

Because in 5 months you will be able. Because there are real, production version of the 2010 model Prius. Because it's a Prius and this is a Prius forum. It's a new model, there will be hype and excitement for a long time. The 2010 will attract new members that may or may not be interested in the older versions. How do you think the Classic owners feel about all of the posts about the current model?

 

Sure glad you didn't express your opinion when I bought my first 2006 Prius. I trolled this board for months in 2005 gathering much valuable info regarding the Prius. I felt, that because of this board and all it's chatter on the new 2006 (vs. the 2004 and 2005), I made a wise decision to wait a few months and get a 2006. I have no regrets.

I'd be willing to bet many who are reading this board and in the market for a Prius are foregoing the 2009 and will wait for the more advanced 2010 model. I would if I was in the market for a new Prius.

Plus if you do not wish to read about the new Prius, simply avoid the posts which refer to the 2010... seems simple enough. You are probably new to newsgroups and boards as this one. I subscribe to many more boards unrelated to the Prius and any time a new item comes or is about to come to market the chatter raises by magnitudes regarding that new item. Don't worry, in time the chatter will subside and soon most of the discussion will return to as before. In any case plenty of posts still abound regarding the older Prius's.

Personally I find the posts regarding the new 2010 very informative and try to read everyone, especially the ongoing thread about the discussion with the Chief Engineer of the Prius. Hopefully when all the facts come out on the 2010 a moderator will post an informative sticky on the new features and their benefits vs. the older Prius's.

Probably think it's our first car, so we know nothing about cars and we are just a bunch of new-bees. Same way the kids will react when they come up with something better.

I find it interesting, wish I could go to some thing like this. Actually talk to the people making it happen and pick their brains.

 

It was a good thing. The Toyota people were very forthright and open. Collectively I think we learned a lot from the experience.

Hey i just saw that the 09 Prius, at least in the Pa. market, has a $750 rebate from Toyota that tips the scales a little toward getting an 09. Plus when I was at my dealer for an oil change yesterday he had a ton of them in stock so i bet you can get one for a few hundred over invoice now plus the rebate.

2010 Prius does look great and promising, but my philosophy of car-buying is always avoid the fresh model-year regardless of manufacturers, let those new bugs and TSB work themselves out first.

Still, like the OP stated, the Prius we are driving now is still running/serving us great.
I myself see no need to bump to 3rd gen just for fresh-design sakes.....
Toying with new-model (esp for Automobile) is an expensive hobby afterall.

 

I just got my first Prius, an 08, end of August. I usually keep my cars for 10 years or so.

I was intrigued with the new Prius and all the hoopla. Enjoy reading about the changes. For me, I won't be changing cars for a while. And to me, the console in the front just ruined a good thing, making me even more glad I got the one I have.

Some of the new stuff is great. I really didn't know much about my old style ICE car, so getting a Prius and being on here learning about the ICE and electric motor and all the other uniquely Prius stuff is a LOT of new data for me to absorb. (And I've said this before, thank goodness for Prius Chat!) Hence, I am quite happy with what I have.

Are you the only one who doesn't care? Not at all. Some of us just aren't ready to move up to a new car for 2010.

 

I too am happy with my 2007, but I DO care about the 2010. The technology has been improved, and those improvements are interesting.

1. No more thermos. Instead (my reasoning here) it has the exhaust heat recovery device just after the cat. This should speed warmup in -ALL- climates, not just the southern US. The thermos doesn't do anything here.
2. No more bladder. Instead (again, my reasoning) it has an advanced EGR system to lower emissions enough that the bladder wasn't needed to achieve the low emission status it has. Probably along with more advanced vapour recovery.
3. Slightly more room inside.
4. It appears to be lighter, though we'll have to wait for specs. to be sure.
5. More options, most of them very cool.

Yup, the "estimated mileage" quoted by Toyota engineers isn't -much- better than the second gen car, but that just goes to show how well they did in the 2003 design (which came out in 2004). It's hard to improve greatly on a good design.

Will -I- buy one? If the local stealer, er, dealer, makes an offer I can't refuse, sure. Otherwise I'm set for another eight years, at least.

I'd say no, you're probably not the only one, but you're in the minority.

 

Completely agree, all conversation concerning anything outside the range 29/1/2003 and 1/2/2003 should be banned forthwith.

 

Its not clear that an advanced EGR system is actually part of the 2010 Prius engine design (contrary to info posted prior to the car's introduction on Monday.) The Lexus system features no throttle body, sophisticated valve lift duration and timing, etc. 2010 Prius definitely has a throttle body. The valve cover doesn't seem tall enough to encompass a fancy valvetrain that can vary lift duration.

My guess is that the bladder is gone because the 2010 Prius probably has a fuel system similar to that found in HiHy and CamHy, where a pump is used to control fuel vapor coming from the fuel tank.

We'll have to wait for the 2010 New Car Features Manual to be released before we can confirm or deny the above.

Responding to the OP, if the 2010 introduction didn't happen, then Main Forum topics would focus on subjects like lower mpg during the winter, Prius getting into accidents, traction control complaints, horror stories about dealer service, discussions about whether the Prius attracts hostile driving or not, etc. After a while these topics get repetitive, especially since the 2G design is now six years old.

Its nice to see that most of the group is enthusiastic about the upcoming 3G model.

 

I'm not planning on buying the 2010 Prius or any year Gen III Prius.

In fact, at the rate I'm driving (3000 miles a year), I might even skip Gen IV.

But I care about the 2010 Prius because I like cars.

 

i want to wait till my car is paid off in 2012.

the pre-orders are disappointing. you lose all the new features if you want the sunroof, and if you want the sunroof you have to take the solar panels.

hearing about the no touring version would of made me trade my spoiler in when i bought the 2010 model, heh

I am interested in the 2010 Prius as it represents the benchmark against which all
other high FE/MPG vehicles will be assessed, hybrid and diesel alike. As such, I
am more interested in what is new under the hood and the floorboards, than the
flash and glitter in the cabin.

I suspect that the estimated FE/MPG is intentionally low, if it is easy to get higher
figures, any buyer will be happy. I suspect that most members here will see
substantially better numbers. In the hands of a true hypermiler, the numbers will be
jaw dropping -- I'd like to see a repeat of the Seattle to SFran contest with the VW
TDI repeated with the 2010 and a competent driver.

As to buying one, definitely not now because there is no clear movement towards a
PHEV -- just some vague reference to being ready for it, whatever that means.

In my situation, it looks like a better plan would be to go to the Hymotion
conversion. (This based on the supposition that my '08 Touring w/ ~20K miles is
worth about $23K used, +$10K for the Hymotion = ~$33K, roughly what guesses
for the 2010 will cost. My daily commute round trip is ~29 miles with 10 miles of
highway. I can see 19 miles of EV with the Hymotion and 10 mi regular operation
on the highway with daily FE/MPGs at 100+ MPG.)

So, keep up the good work Toyota. But I won't be buying another new vehicle until I
see a PHEV or full electric that meets my needs. You're close, but the road to hell is
paved with good intentions and vaporware. Show me the real thing, and I may show
you the dough-ray-me -- it all depends on what else is also out there; Ox, BYD, etc.
