Let's guess how much a fully loaded one will cost!

Currently a loaded Touring is ~ $32,000 so I'll say for $36,000 for the 2010.

I'll guess least expensive model will be $24,500

 

I go for $35K for fully loaded with options, solar sun roof, remote AC, Radar assisted cruise control, parallel parking assist, lane tracking ??, LED head lights or HID, navigation, rear camera, SAT radio, 17" wheels, heated seats with leather, SOS, etc.

Base price at $26K

 

I'm going with 35,000 or less as I also drive an infiniti ex suv and all those tech(lane assist, radar control, nav etc) added about 5000 to the price.

 

A couple of other guys already beat me to the numbers I'd have guessed, so I'm going to shoot in the middle and $35.5K. I think that jhinton hit the nail on the head, it's gonna be close to that $36 K figure.

 

Let's see. $1K more for buttons, and $500 more for the extra .3 liter engine, minus $100 for the drive train changes plus $1K for new-model/inflation, that makes $34400 for a fully loaded Touring.

Oops, forgot about the sunroof and solar cells. Lets add $1500 for that - $35900...

Old car used interntal EGR system (no maintenance). New car has external EGR/Heat Recovery probably $500 - Up to $37400...

Touring - Fully loaded - Out the Door - $40K - Wow, but I got to have it. In for a penny, in for a pound.

 

I say.. same cost as the Chevy Volt ~$40k. I might have to go with a used Prius :violin:

 

It's supply and demand. When the gas prices went beyond $4, the 2009 model cost $4,000 more than the 2008; although, it's exactly the same car.

Note that while the 2010 Prius will get extra features like the radar cruise control, it's now coming with cheaper interior design like flimsy air vents, economy-car-style door handles, etc. The navigation system also looks pretty cheap. So, they are trying to make up for the added niceties by making other things cheaper. The same thing happened with the 2009 Corolla redesign. In 2009 Corolla the sponge-like electric steering is a nightmare, among some other annoyances like the absence of a clock and some other performance and convenience problems.

So, let's hope that the 2010 Prius won't sacrifice much for the improvements. This has been the trend with TOYOTA lately -- while certain features have been improving, other features have been getting worse with their late models.

As for the price, if it comes to $40k, only the (rich) ecofanatics will buy it. The 2009 Prius Touring with carpet floor mats is $29,364 MSRP. My guess is around $32,000 for the fully equipped 2010 model. If the car gets good reviews, is not overly priced, and I have the budget, I can have an upgrade over my 2009 Corolla.

HUGE caveat. The Yen / USD exchange rate. They said in the reveal video that for the first full year (next year?) they expect to ship 180,000 units here. That's what the peak was last year. They can't price it so much that it's out of the high volume market.

Assuming that Toyota temporarily agrees to eat most or all of the currency losses ( huge assumption ) I suggest that the equivalent of Pckg 2 will be $24900 and the fully loaded Pck #6 is $31000. Typically Toyota doesn't change its pricing that much from one new model to another.

Except for the LEDs, Safety Connect, Laser Cruise and LKA there isn't a whole lot different than the G2's which top out around $29000-ish. [EDIT for obv brain drain] plus Solar panels, SunRoof, Parking Assist so I'd add another $1500 at least, more?

However if the exchange rates don't look like they are going back to the 100:1 range then we may see the mid $30K range and lower availability.

 

Given that demand is less I would not expect it to be more than $32k. If it is, I will have to reconsider the leather.

 

There will not be a 2010 Touring Edition, nor an option for a beefed up or "tuned" suspension (but there will be an option for 17" wheels with 215/45/17 tires). I'm thinking $31,500 fully loaded.

 

I can't see Toyota eating the currency costs. From 2004 to 2008 they only raised the base MSRP from $20,295 to $21,725. These was when Toyota was making $ billions per year and they could afford to eat costs. Now they are losing $ billions per year and they have publicly stated with the 3G they intend to make the same profit on the Prius that they make on a standard car. I just don't see them continuing to eat costs especially now that the Prius has jumped in volume.

The 2010 Prius is notably nicer than the 2004 to 2009. I see this as Toyota moving the Prius up-market to make a good profit and separate the Prius from the budget Honda Insight.

 

I'm thining low to mid $30ks for a fully loaded Touring and a base price in the very low $20ks

 

22,000 - 35.000 based on me thinking u cant cram every single electronic gizmo in the same prius at the same time and some options packages will cancel out or void certain gizmos in other packages, like having the parking assist in place of the amplifier

i predict that there will be leather sunroof only and a leather sunroof / solar package to keep the msrp down

i think they will offer touring.

 

navigation system looks cheap? It is more advanced than in LS600h, and makes current US nav system feel pretty silliy...


... also, I just came down from Avensis presentation, and Avensis and Prius will share same interior type plastics (new type grained dash you see in Prius is same as in Avensis), and Avensis is class of vehicle higher than Camry. So that makes Prius jump 3 classes in interior quality
