you will be fine until the next IE security fix comes along. i have often wondered if i would have any issues by not downloading the IE fixes.

i actually was doing that one on XP home box, but SO accidentally clicked on install recommended and IE was in and as we all know, never to be removed without a clean install (which only questionably removes it anyway), but did that for a few years and never had any issues that i was aware of.

now i am using Chrome on one, firefox on the other and am getting similar error messages with FF, but no apparent issues with capability or browsing sites. so who knows.

i have had the "new FF verison available a few times that i have installed "successfully?'

    so who knows?

Glad to hear the problem was corrected. However, I would suggest that a Malware/Spyware scan be performed on the computer as a good precaution.

Considering I solve this stuff every day for my clients, don't under estimate a deep Malware/Spyware scan in the event of an issue (especially concerning IE).

    Suggested programs to use:
    1. Spybot S&D (Download Spybot Search & Destroy 1.6.1.41 Beta - FileHippo.com)
    2. Malware Bytes "Anti-Malware" (Malwarebytes.org)
    * - no need to pay for it, the free portion (scanning) is all you need.

Whatever these two programs find, 'Remove All'/'Fix All' - then restart.

    :)

    Happy New Year all!

Thanks, that's a good idea. I usually run Spybot and AdAware every week or so...but I admit it's been a couple of months just b/c they never seem to find anything since I started using FF w/AdBlock Plus and NoScript.

Just updated Spybot and am scanning as I type. Is Malwarebytes a lot better than AdAware?

My son fixed my computer on Christmas day, me being totally ignorant of the procedure. After repair he gave me these two warnings: " Don't use IE", Don't download anything! Happy New Year Andy

I have to keep IE b/c of some odd software to access my hospital's system so I can take care of medical records from home. It otherwise goes unused.

Updated Microsoft mantra - IE isn't done until Firefox won't run.

ya it sucks, i cannot access my pay stub or any other work benefit functions from home without IE... FF, safari, etc. not compatible... only IE works...

pathetic...purely pathetic, so it runs on a separate computer that normally only serves as file storage (1.2 Mhz celeron with 512MB..doesnt have enough power to do anything else)

A lot of my clients have similar picky issues. I even have a client who INSISTS I logon using a Cisco VPN client adapter! Oy!

Which is why have separate machines on my home office network, for separate clients. I realize I'm lucky this is all a writeoff for me
