My 2002 had its steering rack replaced by the dealer. When I went to pick it up they told me they "couldn't get the car started after the install was complete. It took us two hours to get it running." The shop guy said he "thought the computer was going bad." Since then the warning marker comes up to check something. I took it into the dealer who said "It's the tire pressure warning." even though the tires are new and the tire pressure is correct.

So, has anyone any experience with this? Any tech warnings from Toyota? Seems to me that they reconected the sensors and other electrical componants wrong and shorted something. Any thoughts?
    Thanks

Wow ... the most I can make of this is that your dealer needs to wait for their Prius tech to return from holiday. None of that makes sense to me. Did they even reveal to you what Diagnostic Trouble Code that "tire pressure warning" showed up as?

No codes. It's my girlfriends car. Could be the two things are separate? No start and tire pressure. The same dealer put on four new tires. Perhaps they didn't initialize the tire pressure sensors properly. Any idea how to do that on a 2002? I can't find it. Don't particularly like this dealership.
    Thanks, Kibo

    Hi Kibo,

Classic Prius does not have tire pressure sensors. In fact this was not added to 2G until the 2006 model year. So whoever is telling you about TPS clearly does not understand Prius very well.

If you can determine the DTC (diagnostic trouble codes) that were posted by your car, then we might be able to offer suggestions as to the problem. Lacking those codes, my guess is that the steering rack replacement has nothing to do with the no-start problem. Rather the problem is that the engine ECU needs to be replaced to allow more time for the engine to start before a DTC is logged. I've posted the relevant TSB in other threads, if interested look for TSB EG011-03.

Thank you! It was the dealer who told my girlfriend that! Jerks! I'll check out TSB EG011-03.
