I also have quite a few articles saved from then confirming the option plan. In addition, it's easy enough to find reference to the 1,000,000 annual production goal and the 2020 expectation.

That person at the dealership is confused.

It's a term for an older woman who never marries. In other words, an old maid. I'm pretty sure the term originally intended was "Spin mieister" or "Spin Doctor".

Now as far as being offended, that's your call. (But you have to laugh about the unintended use of the term....or maybe John1701a has discovered that the source of all Prius misinformation is a group of old gals plotting around the knitting table.)

So I guess you missed the part where I said owner of the local dealership. The same guy who bought out the property of the local GM dealer, had the facility completely redone and was expecting to be selling a product lineup of ONLY hybrid vehicles. In other words, someone who was so confused that he put millions of dollars into his business expecting further growth because of the hybrid capabilities. He must have been VERY confused of the information he received from his parent company.

How could any owner of a Toyota dealership have been so confused in March 2003 when John1710a had written a different story in his May 2003 blog than what Toyota was telling him in 2001-2003??

Common Sense is essential here. Deciding between manufacturing realities and dealer misstatements is not hard to figure out.

There's absolutely no reason why he couldn't invest and plan to sell nothing but hybrids.

That's fairly realistic for 2012 here. After all, dealers overseas have been doing stuff like that for years. In fact, specialization is likely to thrive once the bailout shakes out.

Excellent point...but I think you are referring to the Lexus LS 600h L. As you know, this is a pro-Prius site...hence it tends to be a pro-Toyota site also (it may denied but it is true). Several folks just like to be considered pro-hybrid.

One of main things that pro-hybrid folks like about Toyota is their business plan to make the hybrid powertrain a BIG part of their lineup. While GM executive(s) were making statements like..."hybrids are not economically viable". Everyone just remember...to offer a "hybrid option" in every vehicle, you have to offer it in the high-end luxury vehicles also.

GM has been very clear why they are offering their 2-mode hybrids in large vehicles. They can sell them at a profit, actually a large profit.

The Escalade IS selling, in fact, it is selling better than predicted. Cadillac planned for 14% of Escalades to be hybrids and so far 20% have been.

Considering that the standard Escalade as a profit margin in the 5 digits they have lots of room to subsidize the hybrid components. (Which by GM's statements they are)

Keep it up Malorn. You are a very good, logical defender of Detroit. Not that I agree with everything you say, but you stay on point without getting angry. I loved it when you caught him on the Hybrid Malibu vs 4cyl Camry mileage misstatement.
